Are the VW ones that bad? I understood that, apart from not having a clip, they were identical? Part number 06A906461A.

I did a quick MAF test yesterday and apart from nearly getting nabbed for speeding, was only getting about 110 @ 6k in 3rd (I only did one run). Today I phoned the BMW dealer who looked after the car previously and he confirmed that they hadn't been replaced (and probably not even cleaned) since at least 2003! So MAFs are well overdue.

Now, I know someone who works for VW and I'm sure I can get a much better deal on their ones than the £430 I was quoted today for the BMW one's (Stealer wanted £540!). So really, would it be a false economy? Not trying to rattle cages here, just genuinely interested.

Indeed they are. My mechanic said he can get them at about £350 I think and there was a guy on here selling them from latvia for less if I recall.

Mikey-r - Its the proper ones or nothing, seriously, don't waste your time with the VW ones. Do a search on here and see what others do and if you have no luck, let me know on this thread and I'll see if I can find you a price.

LOL ! Exactly.

OP :

You can get them from www.emissioncontrols.co.uk call them. These are EXACTLY what get from the BMW main dealers for over £500 a pair.

They are about £310 for the pair delivered. He doesn't charge VAT so that's why you get a slightly better saving than others who supply it at about £350/£360.

There is also the bimmerzone MAFS, which are jsut the sensors, but I am not 100% convinced with this option.

Good Luck...mess with your choice of MAFS = mess with your M5, big time !

They seemed like a good idea for a while in our M5 community ! You can get the VW ones from a VW dealer for about £140 a pair !

Unfortunately they are RUBBISH, or a POOR substitute at best. My car ran very lean with them on. I took them out the next day and got the real BMW ones.

See above for details for the where I think is the cheapest place to get the GENUINE MAFS for our cars, about £310 a pair !
