Congrats on the fix. Dealers always want to make more money. A bad exhaust CPS allowed me to get my car for $5000 less than the asking price because the dealer wanted to replace bank 2 vanos assemblies + solenoids. Wouldnt that be funny, 5 grand later and it still had a CEL and ran rough. Man i would have been pissed! Anyways, I may be interested in your used Vanos solenoid, just to tinker around with it.

I had a bad diode which caused one of the solenoids not to fire, replaced it with a 1n4148 SMT diode and saved myself $500us + shipping/etc/duty. Local dealer wanted 872$ + tax for 1 solenoid!!!
