I wondering if anybody has experienced the following problem and knows of a solution. We recently bought a new 2002 M5, 10/01 build. It has M-audio. There will be times when we start up the car and the DSP is turned off. This is surprising because when the car was previously shut down the DSP was on. When we go into the DSP submenu, the upper right corner of the screen indicates that the DSP is off and none of the options can be selected except the On/Off option. When we attempt to turn the DSP on by pushing in the lower right knob, the DSP will not turn on. The system remains this way until we shut off the car. Upon restarting the car the DSP is on, and is set to the DSP option that was selected the last time the DSP was working. This has happened five or six times since we took possession of the car (three weeks ago). One time the problem was different; the entire audio system was silent, though we could toggle between radio, tape, and CD. Any insights?
Thanks,
Dan
I have not noticed changes to the DSP settings, but on 3 occasions, I've had none of the speakers working or only a few speakers working. If I turn off the car, it seems to re-set.

I have also experienced the exact same problem that you described. I informed the dealer and they were also unable to fix it. I was told that it was just a computer glitch but this does not make me feel any better. Luckily it seemed to happen more in the first 2 weeks of ownership and has not happened in the last 3 weeks.
Just thought i would join the misery bandwagon considering this has happened to me several times as well and i have had the car about 30 days or so. I also notice that if you have the Aux fans preset to come on throughout the day, those too reset themselves and have to be reprogramed. Apparently the beast has a mind of its own and does not wish to be controlled by any of us and quite honestly i don't blame her . I think what bothers me more, is the fact the dealerships can't fix anything like this. Worthless IMHO.

I'll chime in here as well. Same occurances, seem to notice it less lately, only 1,100 miles. Hard to notice with all that torque though.

My wife talked to BMW (1-800-831-1117). They said that they were aware of the problem, that it was a software 'glitch", and that a fix is on the way. Unfortunately they couldn't give an ETA and claimed that dealerships would learn of the fix before they would. In general, is customer support (1-800-831-1117) reliable or do they blow smoke?
