Steering wheel controls not working

After buying my car I soon realised that the steering wheel controls didn't work, I found that a fuse was missing in the glove box and put one in.

The steering controls work all ok with this fuse in but other things start going weird like the indicators work outside but don't flash inside on the dash, the hazard warning lights button doesn't work. But when I take the fuse back out the indicators and everything goes back to normal.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I am far from an expert but I've just had to have my Ignition Switch replaced as the Satnav/Stereo/OBC wouldn't work plus the heated seats. Whilst talking to the Indy he said the Ignition Switch failing/starting to fail can cause all sorts of wierd happenings including indicators going scatty/random buttons on the dash not working etc - worth a thought?

Also, have you tried the 'reset' trick of disconnecting the battery and removing fuses 7 & 41 for 5 minutes so the car "resets" itself. This, and making sure the battery was in tip top condition were recommended to me when I was trying to diagnose a few issues I had last week.

Good luck.

Well I bit the bullet and went down my local stealer today picking up a new ignition switch for a rip off 55. I braved the cold this evening and swapped it over, went quite well once I had found all the right tools bar having to drill out one of the security screws covered in red paint as it wouldn't come out . The old unit was the original 1999 stamped part and seemed to look quite worn and oxidised inside.

Once all back together It fired up all ok so I stuck the fuse back in for the steering controls, fingers crossed it seems to be working including the voice control which I've never had chance to play with I left the car running for a while and checked the indicators etc worked correctly which they did.
