O.E Reverse Camera Kit

Just fitted my genuine BMW reverse camera kit that I got from ebay trader individual-parts-de. It's a very good kit but has a few down sides, the camera mounting plate which replaces the boot open switch bows in the middle when the fixing screws are tightened / the kit comes with a version of the scotchlok and getting the loom from the boot lid into the boot was a real pain. When I got the kit it had no fitting instructions but a quick call to my friendly dealer (Broadoak) had the full fitting instructions e-mailed to me. The whole job took about 3 hrs an hour of which was running the loom. I will try to make a better mounting plate at some point but for now I will live with the plastic one. Apart from the connections that slot into empty plug sockets all the other wires I soldered rather than use the Scotchloks. I would give a step by step fitting guide but the BMW instructions are very clear and can e-mail to anyone who needs them. I have added a few pics just to give you an idea of whats involved. The price is about half of the dealer price(225 euro's) and in my opinion worth every penny, not just the safety side but the show off side as well.

so how does this function? Does the camera automatically turn on when you engage reverse gear? That's pretty sweet, thanks for sharing this...

As soon as you select reverse gear the monitor automatically switches over to the camera.

Great write up Greg !

This is on my list. I chickened out on it earlier this year.

So you going to do the front view Prism Camera that helps give you heads up at blind/difficult T junctions ?

Cheers

How does it know you have selected reverse - do you tap into the switch or the reverse light ?

that's pretty cool...although for the mounting plate, it seems you could just modify a couple of the screw holes to get it to sit flush...spread them apart a bit.

Very cool DIY, didn't know BMW offered this retrofit kit. We are thinking of carrying a retrofit for all cars (non-OEM), it looks very promising.

I have the kit, and the switchbox required for North American cars, both in their boxes.

I bought both from Tim about a month ago but have changed my mind on installing.

If you're interested in buying them from me at my cost ($606 USD combined), please PM me. I will throw in ground shipping from Vancouver, BC to anywhere in North America
