I've been searching for hours. Searched the forum, as well as the BMW TIS for the car, and cannot seem to find a list of codes.
I think this would be a great addition to the board if we could put this together.

For those who dont know what I'm talking about: You can unlock The OBC in the cluster. Test 4.2 is how you test the MAF. Test 14 is Diagnostics. From the TIS I gather that it stores fault codes, before they trigger a SES or OBD error message. Also I think this is the source of the 3 tones people hear occationaly.

It appears it can only store 5 codes. in the fasion listed below
1 XX XX XXX
2 XX XX XXX

I really hope w can get this code list. I have found a few codes, but as far as a comprehensive list, I just couldn't find one.

Thanks
Casey

Found a list for Test 14

I found a list that seems to look good so far. One thing that seems to appear often, however, that I have no clue about, is the "gong ton" - that's gong tone, I assume, which goes off when you have an error (my fogs are out right now, so I get that OBC warning along with the gong), but it's curious that it'd register that in Test 14 rather than pointing to a specific subsystem - perhaps there's a separate list somewhere about all the various subsystems that Tones 1, 2, and 3 each cover. *shrug*

That's an excellent start zxcasd. I'm sure you know it is a much longer list, and carefully guarded by dealer folks. In fact, if you ask the dealer mechanics, they say they have never seen a list. They just use the GT-1. But, I am positive it exists, somewhere.

Somewhere I did find a longer list, but it was in Russian. I saved it somewhere, but can't find it at the moment. I was able to decipher some of the Russian, using the Internet Explorer 8.0 translation feature, as I recall ...

On the upside, you rarely see any codes listed, if you car is running well, and is well maintained. And, you guessed it, they have to be cleared by a dealer.

I have only had 3 codes in 84,000 miles. The "D7" which was revealed to me by a dealer mechanic. A double Alpha designation that was the result of the dealer holding down the seat button too long (while replacing the fuel tank, which was cracked while fixing the "D7"), and admitted to me by the dealer. And, a computer loading error, which didn't seem to cause a problem.

Well, for as much as any other reason, I wanted to post it here so that I'll know where to find it in the future. I've searched every year or so for the past six or seven and never saw it, but then did some intense Googling today and found it buried on another message board. Reviewing the Test 14 codes that various people had posted here, along with those I've found in my own 14, indicated that it seems to be accurate. So, for those without a GT1 or even a Peake, it might prove useful for a quick check beyond the OBDII.

Great list zxcasd. Thanks for that. Did the post you got it from state its source? I think what we need is a DB expert.....

You can see all the Engine codes (= to Peake), Body codes (= to Test 14), and many more in INPA. What you can't do is look up a list. You only see them when you have them. It must all be in the application's files though - and the corresponding 'description', but you'd need to be able to extract this data from the DB files in INPA to get at it. Anyone.....?! :confused2

PS - 2 examples I have had recently that could be added to the list above -

74 - Brake Switch Error (shows as the decimal value 116 in INPA)
F - EWS Power On Reset (shows as the decimal value 15 in INPA)

Subscribed. Can INPA or NCS Expert clear these codes?

I have a D7, D3 and C7.

Thank you. Where can I buy it? Any regular eBay auction or is there a special site?

Edit - I need the cable and everything.

There are various vendors that sell a package with all the software and an installer for it. Some people have had success going this route, others, not so much. I did my own install with directions off bf.c, I think I have the install programs still. Will check tomorrow when I'm home.

For the cable, you need something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002WIN8VQ/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?qid=1336126649&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

And possibly a 16<->20 pin adapter cable if you have the under hood port.

Ok cool. So if I already have an OBDII cable will that work and all i need then is the PASoft? Or is it a special cable that talks to the Canbus system? THANK YOU for your help. Stupid fuel gauge -_-

That program didn't work because: I have 64 bit Windows :(

Ok so I'm on ECS Tuning. I have D3 and D7 codes. Thats the saddle/left tank sensor and the lower coolant temperature sensor correct? I just replaced the thermostat housing sensor this January.

Thanks. Looking at the website its $18 so whatever. I'll just get them both. I want no more test codes!!! LOL

So I got both sensors just because. The lower sensor is on the radiator hose or on the water pump? I want to make sure I'm correcting the same thing as what is faulted, the D3 fault.

The left fuel sender fixed it. However a funky thing is happening. With roughly a half tank my left tank shows zero fuel but the right side shows 27L. Then as the car runs for the first few moments the 5L or so that I saw in the tank pumps over. That's fine and all except the left sensor showed ZERO L the whole time. The new one. Is that normal with about 31L?

PLEASE STICKY!!!!

D3 confirmed as thermostat housing sensor.
