I know there's a wheel thread... but its gon terribly off, posting pics of anything not just E39s, and I just really want to see all the ones that have 20's on them since I think, thet when "dropped" properly, its the perfect wheel for the car..

here's a few of my collection which im sure most of you already know:

Even using an ultralight forged 20" rim (mucho dinero $$$) -- the added upsprung weight and turning circle of the 20" rim and tire combo would be a performance DECREASE for the M5

It depends on the design of the wheel. Wheels with step lip look one size smaller, for instance.

18s are too small? I beg to differ. On the highway, 18s look perfect.

Also, why are bigger wheels better for looks? What if you subscribe to the school of thought that thinks that a nice, clean tire sidewall is a nice sight to behold? You barely get any of that with the larger sizes, especially in the rear.

Personally I think that 20 inch rims are too big for the e39, I think 19 inch rims are just on the limit. Having run three different sets of wheels on my M5 and on the Nurburgring (18 inch oem, Alpina Softlines, and 19inch BBS LM's) I actually preferred the 19 inch wheels. BUT, I had much much better tyres fitted to this last set of wheels which makes it a bit bias towards them.

cheers
