"Fender liner", is that the right....

description for the piece that goes inside the fender (duh) and gives you a little scrub protection on the front? Does anyone have the part numbers, I need the driver's side. They are what, about $125? My dealer is trying to help me on some weird parts I want, but he has no E39 M5 experience. Thanks if you can help (or have one you want to sell)...

Sounds like you are looking for a 'fender liner extension'. Fender liners are the bigger pieces that go around the fenders. And no, this is not a weird part. It's actually a really common part that gets damaged often.

#14 is what you are looking for in this diagram. Air duct BMW 5' E39, M5 (S62) ? BMW parts catalog

I think you're right....

the piece I'm looking for actually fits flush against my front bumper cover. I just assumed it was all part of the liner. That looks better, maybe it won't be so spendy!
Thanks for the help.

If you have designs on sometime doing the brake duct mod, make sure you order the one with the vents. There is a separate PN for that one.

It is #14 in the 2nd post. It is a piece of the fender liner, but then connects up to the bumper.

While there is one with holes for the brake duct mod (the FAQ has all...) you can just cut your own hole. AND.... on the passenger side which holds the external temp sensor the one with the hole actually is un-insulated. The ones without the brake duct hole are superior since they have interated insulation to isolate the sensor from engine heat. (Marginally "superior".. )

Thanks guys....

I believe it is actually #14. It does mount to the underside of my bumper cover, not like the liner in the freshest post. It is the driver's side, so no temp thingy. And yes, it does attach to the bumper. I assume that the one with the vent hoe is the one that says "with M bodywork". Am I on track?
