Rattle ONLY when shutting/turning engine off.

Guys,

I know there is one thread sort of discussing this, but I've done a search and there's nothing with the same noise I have.

My engine runs fine, uses no oil, and is quiet. BUT. When shutting her down, there is a fairly loud rattle from the engine bay. It slows as the engine stops turning over.

Any ideas?

There's no rattle when blipping the accelerator etc.

Anyone else got this noise?

Cheers

I have the same thing. No clue what it is. Vantaam thinks it was the tensioner located by the oil pump it wears so much it allows the chain to make contact with the timing cover. Im not sure if replacing it fixed his problem or not. Ive heard quite a few M5's with that problem.

Do you also hear a metalic click when you "stab" the pedal from idle to rev it?

Try shutting down with the clutch pedal pressed to negate a noisy clutch bearing

Yeah i know wht you mean. Its kinda embarrasing turning off the car and hearing the rattle. Lots of people ask me what it is, i just tell them its vanos noise related to RPM. My bank1 vanos is very noisy too, i think i will be replcing most of it over winter too!

This car always leaves me lots of projects to work on!!

How about this one.I don't want to open another thread. There is a click when i shut engine off.Sound like a solenoid disengaging.Im not sure if this is normal or not.All those noise make me paranoid. Can't wait to get straight pipes installed. Then everything will be muted.
