Some info on car options list please

Guys,

finally had time to visit my local dealer this morning. I know the parts guy there for 27 years so it was time for a visit anyway. I went a bit late so didn't had time to discuss everything I wanted to know. What I managed was to get the detailed option list from him, as well as ordering spare keys (I only have one at this time ), the rear main seal and some other bits and pieces I need when I'm going to do my clutch next week. Here's part of the list:

Colour CARBONSCHWARZ METALLIC (416)

Upholstery WALK NAPPA/CARAMEL (M1CR)

Order Specifications

No. Description
326 REAR SPOILER DELETION
415 SUNBLIND FOR REAR WINDOW
441 SMOKERS PACKAGE
464 SKIBAG
508 PARK DISTANCE CONTROL (PDC)
609 NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL
629 CAR TELEPHONE (GSM) W CARD READER FRONT
670 RADIO BMW PROFESSIONAL
672 CD CHANGER BMW FOR 6 CDS
677 HIFI SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL
818 MAIN BATTERY SWITCH
863 EUROPE/DEALER DIRECTORY
877 DELETION CROSS-OVER OPERATION
886 DUTCH/OWNERS HANDBOOK/SERVICE BOOKLET
903 SPECIAL CHECK TRADE FAIR/PHOTO VEHICLE
916 DEVELOPMENT VEHICLE W/O CONSERVATION

Series options

No. Description
210 DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)
216 SERVOTRONIC
261 SIDE AIRBAG FOR REAR PASSENGERS
302 ALARM SYSTEM
423 FLOOR MATS, VELOURS
430 INT/EXT RR VW MIRROR W AUT ANTI-DRAZZLE
459 SEAT ADJUSTM., ELECTR. W. MEMORY
488 LUMBAR SUPPORT DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
494 SEAT HEATING F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER
500 HEADLIGHT WASHER SYS/INTENSIVE CLEANING
520 FOGLIGHTS
522 XENON LIGHT
534 AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING
548 SPEEDOMETER WITH KILOMETER READING
555 ON-BOARD COMPUTER
710 M-LEATHER STEERING WHEEL
785 WHITE DIRECTION INDICATOR LIGHTS

Information

No. Description
473 ARMREST FRONT
602 ON-BOARD MONITOR WITH TV
694 PREPARATION FOR CD CHANGER
774 INDIVIDUAL WOOD TRIM
776 INDIV. ROOF-LINING ALCANTARA ANTHRACITE

When I introduced myself to the board and added some pics of the beast, someone said the walk nappa caramel upholstery and the trim (which was not chrome as I thought, in real life there's a dark shine to it so I think it is Titan) combo wasn't factory. It is clear she had her trim replaced once, since according to number 774 she initially had wood trim. Oh well.....

Anyway, I know most of it but what are numbers 877, 903 and 916 under order options, and where is number 818? Also, I was under the impression the standard options included radio and cd changer, or is the difference in the "professional" part?

Any info is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Is it 1998 as one of the early cars produced?

Reading the codes it seems like it was one of the pre-production cars BMW used for media purposes...

It is one of the early cars, yes. Production date is 1998-12-02.

Thanks so far. Do you mean those codes are not the ones you'd normally see, i.e. they're not the generally known ones? Nobody else here seems to know either, I feel a trip to the dealer coming again....

Have seen quite similar description only once on an E36.The owner sent a letter to BMW and recieved as answer that his car was a pre-production media/photo shoot car...

Mostly correct. Code 903 is generally used for cars destined for an auto show, photography for advertisement/marketing materials or similar (902 for press vehicles). They are not by definition early or pre-production vehicles though they can be. Code 916 referring to a development car generally does refer to an early production.

I don't believe they use the battery shutoff switch (818) when it's one of their internal cars.

"Without conservation" means that none of the shipping protection (cosmoline, etc.) is applied.

I haven't seen a definitive meaning of 877 but the most frequent one I see apart from the jokes is a setting whereby only the remote deactivates the alarm (and not the key in driver's door lock). I am not convinced yet about that one. Try it

The CD changer is always listed in the order options since not standard in all markets, so that is normal. The Professional radio was part of the 609 Navigation System Professional, but it was listed separately in the order options until 9/1999, at which time it was deleted (already assumed under 609).

Tyrone D,

A very detailed explanation, you seem to know a lot about this! I'll try the alarm to see what it does. I'm going to contact BMW anyway as I'm very curious about the details.

Thanks!
