Warranty sounds like a waste of money. Why not buy one that will cover the parts that will break or need replacement during your ownership. Starting with the things the PPI uncovered.
Thanks, yeah i guess the warranty only covers the strongest part of the M5.
I am thinking this might not be the best M5 to purchase with all the above problems. Please advise if you agree. I see myself spending alot of money but not sure of the exact amount. Anyone know the going prices to fix my problems?
First, most 'high mile powertrain' warranties are with fly by night companies and are very hard to make a claim- usually they are so restrictive in terms of compliance and language they are wrothless. Did you get a copy of the actual policy laniuage???
Second, those repairs can run a few thousand at dealer/indy prices (no such think as a leaking 'diff mount', btw)... if it is a dealer/used car lot, tell them to fix it first or knock off the $$.
Decided to look around for other cars instead. Feel like i just wasted 260 dollars but at least I got to know what problems it had that I didnt know about.
Getting my money back on the warranty as well, you are right its un-usable. I guess I needed somthing desperate to give me a peace of mind.
thank you for the input!!

the NEWEST e39 M5 on the road is 7 years old. Cars are just going to have issues. And in the big scheme of things, those items are pretty common for M5. If the seller will give you some credit fo them, or fix, or a comibination of the two, then don't thrwo a nice car away. And yes, I'd only get a warranty on a car like this that would cover "catastrophic" problems....you don't mind a $500 bill every once in a while, but you don't want a $4000 one...in my experience, these cars are very strong and have not been terribly troublesome. If you wnat troulefree, about all you can do is go by a new Honda or Toyota. Good luck....
