What will new vanos seals/new splines do for me?

Does the O ring kit that Dr. Vanos sells for our cars help out the ticking problem or the rough running problem?

I think I have both issues and I'm trying to eradicate both of them. Dr. Vanos also sells a splined gear that is supposed to solve the ticking problem, do people have experience with the modified spline gears to be able to recommend them in order to quiet the engine?

Are there issues for which no CEL is thrown, and no OBDII code is found but the Peake will find a specific BMW code that will direct me to my problem? I have a generic OBDII reader, and I'd consider buying the Peake, but I'd like a more full featured PC based diagnostic tool that could do some data logging and maybe some more advanced diagnostics such as a cylinder power balance test. Any recommendations? My guess is the GT1 will do everything the Peake does and more - is there anything feature wise between the Peake and the GT1?

I don't think it's the ticking problem the new VANOS solve - they decrease the 'deisel' kind of sound. - 'Ticking' - can be a lifter, or god forbid - a rod...

your video sounds normal to me...

Rough running - look at the MAFS...

I've read the horror stories about rod bearings, but I'm pretty sure I don't have it. The vid I posted is not the best quality, but it captures the noises I'm hearing. Since it is a cheap, easy & recommended fix; I think I'll do the vanos solenoid seals and report back with before/after video.
