I have a 2001 "Euro Spec" 540i. My car came equipped with the widescreen, and a 6 cd-changer in the trunk because at the time there werent Navigation maps available for Venezuela. My screan does have a working TV tuner, this unit is the one equipped with a Cassette player on the unit and I can only play "CD's" via the CD changer.
What generation screen do I have on my car?? What upgrades would I need in order to play DVDs / MP3s on it and be able to connect an Ipod. I dont care for Navigation as the maps available here in Venezuela are useless but Im getting pretty much sick of only being able to play "CDs" from the trunk
What is the model designation for the Nav screen that has the CD/DVD slot behind the screen??
Oh really ???? Then I was really miss informed ... this explains it all
Ok, so what device / module do I need in order to play DVD / MP3 "cd's" on my monitor ..
A DVD player/changer, or a CarPC hooked into either your existing TV Tuner, or an aftermarket Video module that will replace your TV tuner. You'll still need to have another "device" like a TV Free cable that allows alternate audio stream selection, while the video is being played on the screen, IF you want stereo audio with your DVD/MP3 CDs. If you are ok with Mono, this can be skipped.

Ok, I feel like im finally understanding this a bit... will something like this work: ?
I cant see how you would integrate all of this unless you dumped the factory unit and went all 3rd party.
Oh, it can be done quite well. You just need the right components. Granted, it might end up being more "expensive" than an aftermarket HU that had some of these features, but then you wouldn't have the "stock" look in the interior and that certainly has a value to it. How valuable is that, is of course up to you.
