"New" 2000 Avus Blue M5 at Breman BMW???

All:

I am here w/Garry in West Palm Beach. We were lurking thru the back lots of Breman BMW here (I know you guys do it to)

We see tucked away a Blue M5. It's a 2000 says I, naw it is a 2001 says Garry. Quietly we sneak up on the BEAST (which lets us approach because we know the language). Sure enough it IS a 2000. Looks new. Original sticker and all. Has 2000 NAV and 2001 Gray gauges and leather shifter but 2000 lights etc. Brakes look new, roters look new AND the sticker says AVUS BLUE not Lemans. Odd find for sure. Upon dropping the hard working Garry back off at his office I head back to further investigate this BEAST (ok lusting AND drooling would have been more like it).

Oddly enough a "Sales Professional " was milling around the back lot this time. I asked him the status of this BEAST, upon the hearing the word BEAST he (the "Sales Professional " ) looked confused, the M5 rolled its NON ANGELEYES at him (I assured the BEAST that he was not propperly educated)

Turns out after he talked with someone that it IS a 2000 that belongs to BMWNA and is being stored there and cannot be sold.

Ok WTF................It seems odd that BMWNA would have this tucked away. Anyone have any ideas WHY BMWNA would do that? I mean it would be better stored in MY GARAGE where I have better BEAST tendering abilities. Poor BEAST was under a tree with pooping birds for darn sake

Oh well. Any of you guys down here go by and comfort it in it's isolation

I'm not sure why BMW NA would be storing it, but Avus Blue was not all that odd. From Day One BMW intended to offer LeMans Blue but the initial attempts did not work (was it an inability to achieve a consistent color?) so the beast was released in Europe as a MY99 with Avus Blue as the blue color. It was later released in the USA and since the difficulties had still not been worked out, Avus blue was offered here as well. As I recall, Avus was dumped in favor of LeMans late in the 2000 model year. I don't think there are too many of them out there, specially here in the US

Paint inconsistancies? Humm maybe that is why the hood was blue and the door was Imola

Yeah I hear ya. I have only seen one other and it actually looked lighter in color.

If you read this BMWNA I have a slot to store this car in for you...free of charge
