Our beasts are near useless in the rain. I think I could spin the tires in 6th. I'll start from a stop in 2nd just to avoid spraying the car behind me..
(oh and my foot is made of lead)

Maybe instead of a clutch stop I should have gotten an accelerator stop

If you buy tires to perform well in the rain, you will sacrifice dry pavement performance. My e36 track car is like a totally different car when the R-compound tires come off and street tires go on to drive the track in the rain, but on a dry track, the street tires don't even come close to comparing.

I've driven at highway speeds in tropical downpours in California and in Washington state and the E39 M5 performs very well in the rain. It all comes down to tires as well as driving technique. As mentioned earlier, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 works well on this car in dry or rain. If you drive 8 months each year in the rain, like we do in Seattle, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus are a better compromise for summer/rain tires. I have used both on my M5.

In case we forget how well it handles in the rain: tiff test driving the 1999 M5 - Car Videos on StreetFire

I just bought these tires and they have been great: Hankook

These are the tires and this is the price from TireRack (US). I had a similar problem sliding around and it was the tires. Must keep good shoes on these baby's. Too much power when its wet. I learned my lesson going around a gradual turn with DSC ON. Scared me into buying tires the next day! Cheers

I'm with you there, i know i've said no wheel spin in a straight line, but even a little off line is whole new ball game!! hardly any power can be put down unless you have room to go sideways!!
