Snooper S5 (UK radar detector)

Here in the UK & Europe, American frequency detectors (e.g. Valentine 1) are pretty useless as the radar guns & cameras we have operate in ranges not covered by US models.

In addition to a GPS unit (e.g. Geodesy) I want to get a good radar detector designed for UK use. I have looked at the BEL units but now there's a new Snooper on the market (check out www.snoopers5.co.uk).

Can anybody comment on this unit or recommend alternatives?

Detectors

Ashok
There is a UK version of the Valentine 1 avaiable. Details here atUK Speed Traps
The only thing it lacks is Ku band used on some mobile GATSOs or so I believe. I haven't tried one but may be worth a look.

Loz,

Nevermind about my other post regarding the V1 being useless for you UK folks.

Thanks Loz for the UK Speed Trap website - lots of great info in there.. I'm still undecided between the Snooper and the BEL 550..

Hmmm... I just looked at that site and it says the new Y2001 V1 "has added Ku band coverage and is now a slimmer unit."

Maybe it'll work for you guys afterall!

You are right Russ.
It was a long time since I read that page and must have confused it with some other detector.
It's just a shame they don't make a remote version of this detector. If they did I would surely buy one.

Ashok
For what it's worth I've had the US version of the BEL 550 for a while now on my other car and I'm pleased with it. Good early warning of GATSOs and it's stopped me getting caught by a Mobile Laser setups on the M6 a couple of times.
