BF promptly arrived at 07:00am, I was greeted by the thunderous roar of his E39 M5, OMG what a sound!
We chatted abit, I explained the process and what’s involved, I also mentioned that while I will try my best to get most out of his M5 paint, a 100% correction is also impossible due to various factors.
The car on arrival, like any daily driver, it had the usual brake dust build up on the wheels but strange enough it also had plenty of mud sling… BF car to explain?
The tailpipes in need of some TLC
Some recent bird dropping, fortunately it hadn’t cause any etching in the clear
While there some really good rim cleaners out there, I prefer my normal mix of Cyclo APC and CG, both are non acidic and will not cause clear coat damage
The wheels were given a good ol spray and left for a few min’s before been rinsed off.
The tailpipes got the same treatment
The combo works really well, time and time again, watch it break the grime, with no agitation whatsoever.
Various brushes were used to get to the inners of the wheels
That looks better
The OEM chrome silver paint on these wheels is at the best of times very un-rewarding, due to the colour , it never looks clean, but this time round the difference was clear.
The milder mix of APC was used to help break down the mud sling on the lower panels
Using a fine bristle brushes I agitated all cervices
The badge was looking dull, it was given a good clean
With the agitation done, the car was pressure hosed to remove what ever grime remained, it was still rather early at this stage, and the panels were cool to the touch, therefore I wasn’t concerned of water spotting.
Car was washed using the 2BM with Cyclo Polymer hand wash, great product it suds up really nice.
Car was dried and using Meg’s last touch as a lube, it was clayed down using Auto Magic’s fine clay, I was surprised to have found very little contaminates.
Car was taped up and it was time to find the right combo for what is usually rock hard German clear coat.
First up was the LC polishing pad on Meg’s M83, the paint smirked! I then switched to the LC light cut pad and went straight to the P085, and after 2 passes I was happy with the results.
Given the colour of this car, the 500w dual halogens was doing a good job of masking the swirls and paint defects, and after focusing your eyes after a min or so on a panel you could see the swirls, but my camera just wouldn’t play ball and focus properly on the 50/50, man oh man did I try, but with just no luck
Using this combo the paint was correct and then using the Cyclo DA, I used a combo of FF and Presta polish, the results were fantastic. The only issue is that it takes time with the DA to break down the polish.
There was some baked dirt on the edges of the rear badge that refused to let go, some off came the badge
All cleaned up
Badge popped back in
The might 5 emblem was given a surface polish and grime from the inner where removed using Q tips – (ear buds)…looking good!
With the correction polishing done, the car got a once over with CG’s EZ cream glaze and it was time for some LSP….
Choice of product was…
While it hazed, we tackled other bits like the doors jams / windows etc. There wasn’t much light left when we stopped.
Final result
Thanks for looking
