Yeah you do have to watch the stuff they ship you. I ordered a cera-metallic clutch for the V12 kit I bought from them to replace the original OEM one I had with the V12. The marking on the outside of the box was correct but the clutch that was sent was a oem size one. Glad I opened the box to confirm it before I brought the parts to my shop.

Good luck Brother on your mission.

See the other ESS supercharger threads.

Are you online now?

Raza: I have been following your latest endeavor with some interest. Quick questions: did UUC send you the wrong clutch, or did you order the wrong clutch? Also, it looks really beat up in the photos - did they send it to you like that?

Great thread guys....

Raza - you've raised the bar even further now. Hats off to ya.. :applause:

Roman - does the kit fit into the RHD M5s? (Australia/UK etc). Additional steps/mods required?
Please dont bring LHD/RHD into the Equation whose Constants currently include: Girlfriend, Exchange Rates, 996 GT3 MKII, Driving License, Crashing/Death, Clutch Blowing Up

:crying:

have pics of the back of that V12 flywheel?

it looks modular, like you could re-orient it in order to match up like you need it to.

#188 ·
also, I just browsed UUC's website and the M5, Z8, and 540i all have the same part number, LWFM62, for the V12 flywheel.

#191 ·
haha, man, you're totally right. how did I skip right over the M/S difference!?

#192 · (Edited)
yea theres a 2 tombstone variation between the 2 kits, everything else is identical.

i ordered a clutchmasters stage 3 kit, now i need paul to refund my money for selling me something that was not compatible with my car, even after i asked and confirmed the kit was for a M5.

and what was your need to make that post on bfc? the blower had nothing to do with the clutch. it really didnt take but a few hours to install the blower. i installed the kit 3 times before catching that the flywheel was the issue.

$20 (if you could ever get in touch with UUC) says that UUC has the ability to swap just the timing and ring-gear portion of the flywheel between M and S62 models. Whether or not they'll sell it to you is an entirely different story.

#198 ·
Raza - did you consider the JBRacing 280mm flywheel with a stock 850csi clutch? I know you are pressed for time and it's possible that nobody has one in stock, but a larger clutch seems necessary for a daily-driven super-charged beast.
Our test car in Norway has been running a new stock clutch for over 20k miles and so far it is holding up.

thats still to much money, i cant justify $2000 for a clutch kit.

the fact CNS charges 2400 blows my mind away. an individual with a decent machine shop could rig up the CNS setup. all you do is machine down the outside of the flywheel and redrill the holes for a 260mm clutch kit. that would cost you a grand in parts, and few hundred in machine work, IF that. they are charging 2400 with probably a grand profit margin for something that really doesnt have much R&D.

ive reached my boiling point with the situation, if the car doesnt run right, im parting it out. i dont even want to deal with trying to diagnose whats wrong. ive wasted easy 30 hours of labor chasing an issue that was caused by a member who sold me the wrong sh8t, and then to top that off he wont answer phone calls now after i told him i want my money back. which is only pissing me off even more. soon as i get out of class im going to call him 1 more time and if i dont get a answer or returned call im talking to my CC company for fraud and a chargeback on my card.

#202 ·
man...don't part it out because of someone else's screw up. Step back, cool off, then decide. A buddy of mine spent 3 yrs building a car, it smoked after the build (he thought the motor blew) parted it out and at the end of the day...regretted not finding out for sure.
I had an FI car I built, it ran a bit lean so I never got to crank the boost...I sold it. I regret it.

#203 ·
Raza... Rather than part your car.. just get it running with the SC and then sell it to me!:hihi:

I agree with you on UUC... this is exactly what I hear from everyone who has ever dealt with them.

Well now you hear something else.

I have had stellar service from UUC - needed a replacement clutch and got it without any problems from UUC
under warranty. You also have to remember that the dissatisfied people are much louder than those that
are happy....

And Raza..... breathe through your nose and relax. You have now left OEM land and have a custom
car. You will have more problems than with an OEM car and they will take more time to solve.
Finish this project - you will be very happy with the result.

Hang in there, Raza. Don't throw out what you've done so far. Just get your replacement clutch in there, then the thing should run okay.

However, if you do get really, really, tired of it just drop the SC off at my place. You know where it is. :)

#206 ·
hopefully that clutchmasters kit will be what i expect it to be. i know how to drive so im sure it will be fine, i just needed something to handle the power which i believe it will be able to.

if you guys know anyone who needs a 540 V12 kit please send them my way because paul has not returned calls or texts so far. i expect that from members on bfc, but not m5board.

Where's he live? You need a leg broken or somethin'

Mr. Raza - don't know you, but I wanted to drop a line of encouragement to you on this amazing project. I know you are frustrated, but please don't give up. I wanted to tell you that I am in your corner and hope you get to see the fruits of your labor soon.

Just seems like you've been through a lot - and I hope you find extra happiness and satisfaction driving your ride when you complete the project because of the adversity you've been through.

For what its worth, your documentation of this process and your eventual happiness with the kit will have a huge affect on wether I go for the project as well. That is the beauty of this board, we all learn and share with each other. Your contributions haven't gone unnoticed and unrespected.

Thank you, flip flops and all!

Up.

Hang in there bud, don't blame the car because a tool sold you the wrong clutch!!

The car will be awesome, given the way you change parts like most of us change underwear,:haha2:, I would say put the stock clutch back in, break in the SC (about 500 miles, so you can't pound on the clutch anyway) and by the time the SC is broken in, your new clutch will be here and you can decide whether to change or not!

But in the meantime, you will be driving instead of writing!!:wroom:

Regards,
Jerry

Go Team Raza

Raza you remind me of a man named "Ferruccio Lamborghini", that after a few snobby remarks from a man named "Enzo Ferrari" set out to build a better car. If anyone doesnt know the history of Lamborghini you should really read the wikipedia page... Lamborghini - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

sucks that everything is going wrong...my clutchmasters clutch was a HUGE POS!!! not only did it slip, it came apart in my tranny and broke the bell housing/case. had to buy a new tranny case as it is all one piece and have the tranny rebuilt. after every clutch on the planet i finally went with spec STG 3+ in my 820hp 996tt porsche. it handled 3500 miles of a beating on the gumball this past may without slipping one time, and imho is completely streetable. i can bring it by tomorrow if you want to see how it drives.

with that said, hurry and finish this thing...want to be sold on buying a s/c for the beast!

#227 ·
I had also tried the Spec stage 3 before the Clutch Master and the disk overheated and bent on the track. It may work well on a Porsche but not on an overweight M5 as you need are larger diameter clutch than OEM. You wouldn't believe how many clutches I've been through and the CNS clutch is the only one that is holding up so I am trying to share my experience to save some people the headaches I've been through.

#228 ·
Spec Clutches are garbage. I personally have seen MANY come apart. I have seen them explode and ruin bellhousings and embed clutch bits in the frame rails of cars. DO NOT buy a spec clutch, ever.

Raza,

If you're serious about building a clutch setup talk to www.competitionclutch.com

I had their 7.5" twin plate clutch in my race car and it was incredible; not to mention, they're awesome people with good support.

#230 ·
Multiple disc clutches. Now you're talking!

Not for a daily driver unless they use sprung hubs and definitely not a small-diameter clutch.
