yes yes i know another MAF thread. But honestly, i think its worth it to back it up.
Anyways my beasts MAFS were replaced at 66K miles, the car has 120K, so they have about 54K miles on them. Papers filters, untill i switched them out 2 months ago for K&N's. Of course, they dirtied the MAFS so i bought a used pair of VW MAFS.
Threw them in, and wow the car seemed to drive so much smoother, faster, i wouldnt say so, but it was much smoother espcially in the cold. I noticed i was having some little issues again, my LTFT was at -3.93% for both banks, where as before it was -1.57% with dirty BMW Mafs.
Anyways i picked up another set of VW MAFS to keep as spares in the trunk, just in case, decided to throw those in 2 weeks ago, car seemed to run slightly better, but it was still jerky, i felt like i was new to driving stick again, i just figured it was because i hadnt driven the car much, but when it warmed up, it wasnt as bad. I noticed while slowing down in gear, it would back fire, you could hear it, sounded like an exhaust leak, the car would jerk at low rpm especially when cold.
Yesterday i was bored, and decided to put my OEM BMW Mafs back in, and wow, all i can say is i WILL NOT ever put VW mafs back in. I honestly was sold on the VW MAFS, i thought they were gods gift to the M5 owner, but after driving for about 220 miles, i can honestly say the car is much smoother again, it feels quick, i can break my tires loose in first gear again, and get some mad spin on the 1-2 shift, where as before, id only get a decent chirp on the 1-2 and no spin in first.
I am about to order a new set of BMW 029 Mafs, i know on beastpower they sell them, i swore they use to be 345$ for BMW mafs, but they show 345 + 125$ for the BMW 029 MAFS?
Is there any place cheaper, or is that the only place that sells them for that price?
Oh and i guess i sum up the typical prepared M5 owner. I keep a spare pair of MAFS in the trunk, 8 liters of Castrol TWS, my basic hand tools and my Mac ET97 code scanner! Call it crazy, but i like to be prepared!

+1 on VW Mafs in the bin !!! A lot of people agree on this now !
Soon people will also realise that just buying an 029 element on its own (not screwed into new tubing) is not the real deal either....watch this space !

Yes I agree! Honestly, i was all for VW Mafs, I find generally with the internet, if one person has a bad experience with something, everyone else jumps on the band wagon. Personally i was happy with the VW MAFS, untill i started noticing my car was back firing when slowing down in gear, the throttle response was terrible, it was incredibly jerky when cold, somewhat jerky when warm and just seemed like it was missing something. I put my old BMW mafs back in the car and even with 54K miles on them, the car still ran way better. My LTFT's are down from -3.57% to -0.77% on both banks.

Yes, part of me knew that, but the other part was secretly hoping that 321.06 was for both
On a side note, were you a member of maxima.org? I seem to remember that screen name.
How much was your diagnostic hardware/software, does it read LTFT's ?
Cheers
Hmm thats not a bad price! Those include the MAF tubes correct? My Mac ET97 scanner was about 150$CAD taxes in. It can read, LTFT, STFT, O2 sensor voltages, you can graph the o2 sensors, fuel system status, read and erase codes, view emissions readiness monitors, evap system tests, o2 sensor tests, calculated load, MAF voltage etc.
It works good, for me it was great, because i was having a readiness monitor issue and with this, i was able to check to see when my readiness monitors were set before i went through aircare!
