starting problem

drove my m5 for about 20 miles quite hard then went into a shop for a couple of minutes and wen I came out she wouldn't start keep trying her but she just churned and would'nt take the rev. this went on for over a hour then I took the air boxes out and blew into the maf meters she then started.would one of the maf meters be on there way out or can you clean them any way?????

Wow ! How hard did you blow to start the car......

I dont think MAFS will cause a non start scenario.

Think fuel pump I reckon (especially as it was after a blast) , failing that Crankshaft position sensor.

Your car have more than 70K Miles ?

it has 104500 miles on her there was times as if she was going to start but just wouldn't take the throttle.When I took the air boxes apart ther was quite a bit of dirt in the bottom and around the air flow meter inlet mess.

Disconnect the wiring plug to your driver side maf, and see if there is any difference ?

Sounds odd to have drt where you are saying, you mean past the air filter ??

no in the bottom, but i am going to change the filters in the morning.Where would I get a crankshaft sensor in the uk if I had to and what sort of price

It's probably your fuel pressure regulator. Doesn't fail often, but your symptoms are spot on for a bad one.

took my maf sensor out and cleaned them with a alcohol based cleaner also cleaned out the air boxes seems to be alright at the minute have to do a few more miles to see if it has done the trick

Good luck !

Please make a note of the part numbers for Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter and Fuel pressure regulator as in my opnion you will be buying those very shortly

Have you checked through your service history to see what maintenance parts have been changed throughout its lifetime ?

Have you done a MAF test yet ?
