Hit a small deer - not that bad of news actually...

My $100 deductible comprehensive insurance will cover a new bumper that was in need of a re-spray from the sandblasting of highway miles.

Feel worse for the deer now......sort of

Exactly my thought! We hit a deer years ago in a SUV and it bashed in the entire corner from top to bottom and flew up on the hood - this was an SUV!

Hood and grill fine - just broke the bumper and the underneath black wrap around piece whatever that's called - it was very dark and didn't know what I hit until I saw it sprawled out in my rear view mirror - only way that you can tell the car was hit from afar is that it knocked off the little painted tow door or whatever THAT'S called.

Look up close, then you can see that the bumber is all broken.

I'll try and post a picture later - no fur though.

I hit at deer at 50mph in my 1996 528 (still an E39). Cracked the headlight (£5 off ebay) and chipped an 1/2 inche square arear of the bumper near the foglight. That was it.

E39's are strong. In Europe they scored 1 out of 5 on the Europe NCAP pedestrian saftey rating. If it hits you, its not looking good for you.
