Side mirror issue / Reverse function

I don't know if it's a normal function on all M5's, but the RH mirror (on LHD cars) turns down to show the corner of the car when transmission is on reverse. However, the mirror stays down when I put it on some else gear and I have to lift it back manually from the switch.

If I do it again, it seems to remember the original position and will turn itself back again... but then again, after restart, same issue.

Is there some kind of learning procedure to be done for the mirror, so it will remember its place? The memory function on drivers door doesn't seem to help at all.

There is a switch that changes which mirror you are controlling. If you leave it to the left, the mirror doesn't dip, if you leave it to the right, the mirror dips each time you put the car in reverse, and then it returns when you take it out of reverse. That is the theory at least.

Mine does the same as yours 50% of the time. You can get it to return by putting it in and out of reverse and switching the switch while it's in neutral - saves having to reposition it. To be honest though, it's more of a hinderance than a help so I always leave the switch to the right to disable it.

If anyone knows a fix let us know!

Not a fix, but a known (and normal) quirk in the mirror operation is that if (assuming the switch is set for auto dip on reverse) you go from reverse to 1st gear BEFORE the mirror has finished dipping, the mirror will stay in the down position. Obviously this is not a common occurrence as the mirror does dip pretty quickly, so you may have different issue.

Seems the mirror remembers its position after I've done the manual lifting of the mirror, but will not function after ignition is cycled off and on...

I find that if the mirror doesn't get time to go down fully when selecting reverse then it gets stuck in that position and won't come up.
I then have to select reverse again and wait till it goes down fully, stops, then it will come up to the preset position when out of reverse.

Maybe a little OT but still related to the mirrors...when I unfold the mirrors the drivers side glass clicks back and forth a tiny bit a few times, maybe 4 or 5 seconds. It obviously stops, but does do this every time the mirrors are unfolded. Any advice appreciated!
