informative article on E65 (new 7)

http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cf...118.001&Page=1

for youre reading (dis)pleasure.

the car is actually growing on me. the weird thing is- I think I used to think the rear was the worst part of the car, but now I am finding it has a certain athletic look to it from a 3/4 angle. Whereas the front looks a bit droopy. I read a comment that basically the E38 was like a wide receiver and the E65 is like a defensive tackle and I think thats about right.........

Fogetaboutit! It'll never grow on me until they give it a major facelift interior and exterior, and a new rear-end so that it looks European once again.

I took a 745i for a test drive Saturday with a fellow car nut. Interesting car. The iDrive is easier to use than I had heard; within a week I don't think I'd take my eyes off the road when managing the radio or climate control (read: I'd be able to use it without stopping the car ). Then again, I'm a gadget freak Gen-Xer; maybe it's not simple for everyone, particularly this car's target market. However, you can talk to the car if you don't want to mess with the knob (I don't really see the target demographic talking to car either. ).

All in all, I think BMW won't have trouble selling them if they can get people to drive one. The 6-speed auto behaved very well. Steering felt nicely weighted. Brakes seemed overboosted, but that's more in keeping with this car's mission vs. an M5. But nicely solid going down the road. The trunk is surprisingly small compared to how it looks from the exterior. I don't know how many golf bags I could get in there, but not many.

I loved the Start/Stop button and the way the "key" slides into a slot. Not sure about the shifter on the column -- it felt fragile and moved too short of a distance when shifting P-->D or P-->R. I did like the slide-out phone dialing pad and the in-dash CD changer. The 19" wheels are a must for appearance. It'll be interesting to see the Li and/or Sport packages from an appearance perspective.
