hello all. My 1200 mile service is due in one week. I just wanted to find out how many miles if any the dealership added on your cars during that service. After reading stevem's horror story about the dealership putting on 1200 miles I am a little paranoid. I recall someone saying that the 1200 mile service only required changing of fluids with no test drive needed.

I had my done "while you wait". I had the appointment booked for 8AM and just sat there for a couple of hours while they did their stuff. Dealer miles = Zero.

Mine had 16 more miles when I picked it up. A bit much for my tastes

Before I took my 2001 M5 in for service I called several BMW dealerships to find out what they do at this service and the answers I got ranged from all fluids topped off with rear diiferential and engine oil change to just rear differential oil changed.

To make a long story short, at the 1200 mile service my service advisor wrecked my M5 hence my 2002 M5 signature now. At the 1200 mile service for my new 2002 M5 it was very clear that no test drive would be conducted and I would wait on my car. Fortunately everything went well but unless you specify exactly what you want and wait on it, they will do whatever they want.

When you arrive for service reset the trip od and write down the mileage. Ask the service advisor if a test drive is required and if so why?

He will now be forewarned that unauthorized use is monitored and will be reported.

I had unauthorized use and did report it to BMW of NA. Oil change with 8.6 miles added was not required and the invoice told a different story in an attemp to conceal it. I had reset the trip OD and caught it.

You will be OK if you let them know you care.

The only driving for the 1200 mile service is to the lift rack and back.

Should be no more than .5 mile.

Anything else is a joy ride.
