Craig,
I'm missing the jack pad on the left front so I make sure the block of wood is not touching the cover. I haven't taken off the RF cover so I am not familiar with how the pad interfaces with the cover. Off the top of my head, I would say that if you removed the plastic plugs along the outside and the screws at front in the wheelwell, you should be able to slip the cover out from under the jack pad if it is restrained. Make sense?

Before jacking the car up you need to pull out the flap of the filter cover that is tucked under the jacking block, it comes out fairly easy. Jack the car up as normal and place axle stand under front cross member. When job done and you have run the car to check for leaks put the cover back on let car down off the jack and tuck the flap back in.

to swap the pad, all you need is 2 flathead scrwdrivers. One small one to pry the center plug out, and one larger one to pop the pad off the car. then pop it on the corner you need and replace the center plug. Very simple.

I changed mine out at 50K - it actually looked pretty clean, but I definitely agree with changing it out at this interval.

Changed Transmission and Differential Fluid today [Pictures]
I don't know if you've seen it, but Timmay's post above has a lot of good information in it. The main thing about the transmission fluid change is that you definitely need some type of pump to fill it.
The RP fluid, as many others have reported, is great!

Good deal on the ff change...sounds like it was WAAAAY overdue. Don't be too shocked if your fuel pump gives up the ghost anytime soon. Fighting that filter for so many miles has surely shortened its lifepsan as many here have learned the hard way. Plenty of threads here re: drivabilty issues just like yours caused by failing fuel PUMP. So if your symptoms return...or car just won't start...the FP should be your prime suspect. Especially without codes or SES light present.

Good point on the filter. The stumble when cold seems a bit better so far, but I'm sure the pump was working overtime. I'll put that on the list. Gonna have to sell a kidney to get this thing up to snuff!

changed at 64k, definite driveability improvement. Labeling this part as a lifetime part is absolute nonsense. Especially considering how easy it is to change. Why can't they include this part in the scheduled maintenance program on a car as special as this one? BMW should be ashamed of themselves.

You do not. I filled mine using a tube I fed through the engine compartment and into the transmission fill hole. Gravity took care of the rest.
