Wow crazy list you have going on there. Figure by the end of the year, everything would have been replaced!

Ive only owned my beast for about a month and put 2000KMs on it, since hten ive replaced

Oil filter, Air filters, Micro Air filters, Oil filter housing mounts, Power steering housing mounts, 2 MAFS, 2 CPS, Fuel filter, Oil cap, Oil seperator hoses, spark plugs, pre cat o2 sensors, post cat o2 sensors, both sway bar brackets, coolant, oil seperators. Still have to replace the lower return hose for the oil seperator, i plan on replacing all the vacuum related lines.

Still to do which is purchased: X5 Thrust arm bushings, Tubi exhausts, HVAC Buttons, Valve cover gaskets, 2 Intake CPS's, Vanos solenoid o-ring upgrade kit.

Not purchased but planning : MK3/MKIV DVD NAV, Rogue X-Pipe, MY01+ Headlights, CELIS tail lights, E60 SSK, Dinan Strut bar, Rotora Slotted rotors F/R, Hawk HPS Pads, Sink drains + brake duct mods, H&R Springs and maybe some Koni's.

Anything youd recommend in terms of maintenence? My cars in pretty good shape, never seen a winter, absolutely no rust, even in the gas door area, it runs good, passed the GT1, not by much on Bank 2, which i figure is due to the vanos solenoid seals.

Weird... I've owned mine for 4 months and put 3k on it, and so far all I've had to replace are MAFs (originals at 68k), fuel filter (also original), and rear swaybar brackets. Although I guess when I bought it, I also had the rear brakes done, tires replaced and P/S lines/fittings replaced, but those were all from previous owner wear. Car has been a dream other than that!

Steady on bro !! You are going down my slippery (yet pleasurable) slope... (M5_Vancouver) !

I think you know what you are doing ! If I can think of anything you should really do I ll let you know for sure.

I have a sinking feeling that if the Oil Return Hoses are blocked up then it may render the possible cyclonic (sp) effect of the oil separators, redundant and thus may lead to higher oil consumption...

I am leaving that job for when the T Stat/Water pump replacement gets done, as you know its pretty tight down there.

Go for the MKIV nav, I reckon.

Rear suspension components are often overlooked by owners in my opinion ....Rear Balljoints for example

Caliper repair kits are better than sticking calipers....

I have asked if people change their engine (motor) mounts and no response, I have always had a pleasant improvement changing this on other cars, so will do that soon, its gotta weaken surely ?

I am going to change pretty much all rubbers on the door frames and doors....

I believe there is an atmospheric pressure sensor, or at least the DME has an allowance for this, its something I am gonna look into, scraping the bottom of the barrel with this though, plenty more stuff to do before this.

Crankshaft position sensor...

I like the concept of changing all 4 CPS, let's say every 60K miles, as these are the eyes of the Vanos, and I like my Vanos to have 20:20 vision.

Oh man, I could keep going into the wee hours......!!!! In my opinion you are doing things really well !!

Thanks

Kumaran

What's weird ?

There is a big difference between : what you HAVE to replace ; what you should replace ; what you fancy replacing ; what you replace because you are experimenting ; what you replace for a giggle

If I were to drive your car for a day I could probably present you with a list of works that I would get done to it for circa $8000 !

Lol but don't panic, most will be non essential !

Thanks

Kumaran

Thanks for the reply!

As for the lower oil sep. hoses. I meant to put i havent replaced those yet, i had planned on it but after pulling the seperators out, i realized theres absolutely no way to do it correctly with the thermostat housing where it is. I plan on replacing the thermostat while i replace those hoses. I would say on average i have a little higher then average oil consumption at around 1L/1000KM, but then again, i want to fill this thing with TWS, i think the previous shop put 5W30 in it though. Long story short, but i have my suspicions, ordered some TWS so im waiting for it to arrive. Another good hose to replace is the drain for the plenum, its at the lower most portion of the plenum and allows oil to drain back to the crank case. Mine was plugged and had a small tear.

Heh M5_Vancouver

I am very picky when it comes to maintenence, the way i look at it, is replace it before it breaks. That way no uneccesary damage is caused, and you wont be stranded on the side of the road. I am a maintenence freak, but theres no point in modifying a car which is not running 100%. The only thing i plan on changing is to some OEM O29 MAFS, but as it stands now, i have to figure out my Powerchips dilema, or maybe ill be posting a DIY of the carbon build up fix.

You mentioned you hadn't done the oil seps return hoses, with reasoning, same as mine !

If you can still eat and get your girlfriend nice handbags and shoes then I say throw all you can at the BEAST ! It repays you with such a feel good factor !

Thanks for the plenum drain pipe tip ! Adding it to the job list : "whilst plenum off"

Oh yeah talking about things that strand you when they go south : Fuel Pump, done it ?

A Crankshaft position sensor will also strand you, but less so reported read as less likely. These are shimmed into location I believe, so need to do some more reading on it !

I fully agree with you about no modding until you have it running pretty much how BMW intended !!

Cheers
