Surveys

I bought a 2002 M5 in October. Since then I've received five different very lengthy surveys (some are up to six pages of very small type) about my experience with the car. The first two I responded to because I'm so pleased with the car. However the rest have just been tossed in the trash due to the time to fill them out.

Have the rest of you had the same experience with surveys since you purchased your M5?

since i got my 01 M5 last March, i've gotten about a half dozen surveys in the mail; however, don't think it's because of my M5 because prior to that i bought a 540i in june 99, and a M3 in sep 97 and i've been getting about 6 surveys a year since 1997.

my thinking is at first i got the frequent surveys because my name got on some "just bought new car list". now, obviously, i keep getting them because my name is on some "this guy fills out and returns surveys pretty regularly list".

i like the ones that include a nice, crisp new dollar bill though

marketing genius because even though i know exactly what it's supposed to do, it still works on me because i take the dollar and feel guilt tripped into filling out the forms. a couple were surveys which sent the mailer asking you to sit in on an auto industry or auto design poll; those were pretty cool to go to. one paid something like $200 for each volunteer for about 4 hours of time. they actually sounded like they wanted our input and opinions about current auto design and what our worst complaints were.

man, i can not WAIT until the next invite comes in the mail. i'm going to talk their ears off about the new 7 design from BMW.

I always fill them out just to break the cycle. Remember, who you hear the most from are the dissatisfied. I prefer to have them hear the good side as well. I also take the time to praise my service advisor by name as well during phone surveys. He takes very good care of me and I like returning the favor!

Weclome aboard, Jim!!

The only survey I received was a JD Power deal immediately after delivery. Since then, none. I do get the occasional follow-up call about Service Center visits. And like Mark, I make it a point to talk-up the folks that take good care of me!

Jim, if you've got the time, I'd complete the surveys (since it appears they don't just send them to everyone). What I do know is that BMW takes survey responses very seriously, and as a consequence, so do dealers.

Required caveat: I may be wrong about the not sending to everyone. For tax purposes, I've kept my Beast licensed and registered and "garaged" in FL, so it's possible they send them and the forwarded mail simply gets lost. I dunno.

Thanks for the inputs. I have just retrieved two of the surveys out of the trash and I will respond to them. I like the ideas about making sure positive reports get back to BMW.

I also agree with others about the phone surveys after service visits. I have owned several new BMWs and I always make sure to recognize the good service I get from my dealer's team. It really helps the service team (part of their compensation is effected by these reports) and I get absolutely incredible service from them. :p

I've returned 4 so far on my Z8 since Dec. 2001 delivery, 2 coming with $1 bills. I also filled them out for the sake of my dealer and to promote BMW, as Mark and Dave have stated. 4 are enough; if any more want survey responses, they can buy the results from the previous 4.

Jacob, in the past, I've simply returned the $1 bill in lieu of filling out the survey, to ease the guilt.

Hahah "this guy fills out and returns surveys pretty regularly list" thats funny.

Wow $200 for a 4 hr servey and u get to see their new designs! I want to get my name on that list hehe... Ya they need more customer input on the upcomming BMW designs, before they screw up more car designs!
