I'm a big fan of BMW M5s, even though I'm pretty sure I'll never make enough money to buy one. I'm a computer science student at Université de Moncton, in New Brunswick, Canada. I guess I'll make pretty good money, but not enough for a M5... maybe an old M3 when I get older, but that's another story... My goal is to have a Mustang
Anywayz, in October, I was walking alone back from university to my appartment and I saw this BMW at a stop sign like 50 meters in front of me (the BMW was 90 degrees from me). So I was like, "oh, nice 5-series". Then I saw it go a little bit backwards before lauching, so I was like "cool, it's stick shift..." but when it turned right, I saw the 4 tail pipes and I was like "OMFG, an M5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"... I was *SO* excited, I began running a little bit as I was excited, ahahha.
Anyway, I came back to my appartment and I called my friend to tell him (he never saw a M5 either) but he wasn't home. I had to go to the convenience store right next to my appartment, so when I got, I saw the M5 at the car wash right accross the street!!!!!! So I ran back indoors to get my digital camera, and when I got out, it was already gone!!! I couldnt believe it!!!! And what pissed me off was that it was probably already at the car wash when I went in my appartment, but I just didn't notice!! AAAAAAARRRRRRGHHHHHHH
I could see myself walk to the car, ask the car to take a picture, talk about the engine and listen to it while he was leaving.............. but no
Anyway, how would you react if someone would walk up to you and ask to take pictures like this?
I'm sure most people on this board will be pretty flattered if someone came up wanting to take a picture of their car and talk about it..... but again, not every M5 owners are as knowledgable as the ones on this messageboard, and some wouldn't have a clue as to why you want to take a picture of their car... :p

Hahaha I've never asked a M5 owner that before... I dont think I've seen a Parked M5 just randomly on the street... Although I did ask a Ferrari owner if i can take pics of his car when I saw him getting out of his car and his answer was a big smile and a warm "Ya, sure." and left me alone with his car and my camera.
Interesting... what would you guys say?
tfung: Ya, you are right... last time on the street I gave a M5 owner thumbs up he gocked at me w/out a smile... (almost mad dog look even) like I was distracting him and drove off... actually happened to me twice... I was like Poo, BLAH!
But this one other time on the freeway... with my SIGN "BMW M5 Rules!!" The guy looked at me, smiled and showed me how the M5 50 to 70mph acceleration!

Nice post here. Never say never - you might one day own an M5. Keep that positive attitude going!
I can't recall how many times people would come up to me in a gas station or some parking lot to talk about my old 993 Twin Turbo. Being a car nut I loved the attention and never did the 'nose up in the air' treatment. I've found out that most folks are pretty nice when it comes to car talk.
Whenever I go to my local dealership invariably someone will want to check out my M5. Again, it's very flattering to hear such nice comments from fellow BMW owners. I'd say sure to the picture!
Originally posted by kag well my guess is that if someone buys an M5, he knows what he's doing... no?
That's not always the case. I have met a few M5 owners who really don't know what the car is capable of doing. I met this one guy who didn't even know what the "M" meant or symbolized. He did know that it was made in Germany though.
For a lot of people, it's just a 5 series or a 4 door sedan that gets them and 4 others to and from point A to B. For others, it's a stealth roller coaster with orgasmic capabilities. At least that's how I see it!
I LOVE MY M5!!
Kag, you should be reaching a bit higher then a Mustang! Where is the self esteem?

Here in the bay area I see new M5s all the time, and I try to wave to each one, but I would say that only about 1/3 of the owners have any idea what I am doing. I usually just get a blank stare. When I had my E28 M5 I only had a couple people show interest. I was at a used car lot looking at a DINAN M3, and the salesman came out and asked why I had put M5 badges on my old 5 series. Then he assured me that the M3 I was looking at was a real M car. Needless to say, I explined to him that he was a moron, and had no business selling M cars. I wish I still had the e28.

KAG - I'm a guy who got a degree in computer science and owns an M5. Why do you think it won't happen to you?
I DID have to wait, and there are no guarantees. But 5 startups and 20+ years later, I did OK for myself and my family. In the meantime, I drove the best car in the class that I could afford. I don't care how much you have to spend, you will always have a choice between car guy cars and, well, just plain old transportation.
Study hard. Keep your mind open. Meet successful people and learn why they are successful. As they say, luck is nothing more but being prepared when the right opportuinty comes along.

Kag, I was in the same boat as you just a year or so. I never thought I would own a M5 but now I do. I cheer your enthusiasm for this great car. I still remember the first time I saw a M5. I almost peed my pants. Even after that first sighting I never knew I could own one. After many months on this board and some diligent saving I own one. I still find myself sneaking peeks at this beauty!
Also Kag you sound young enough to aspire for a better car than a mustang! You must not know that most computer science majors around here make bank. I am sure you will do fine.
