Check filler cap message

I just started to get this message yesterday right after I start up the car. It goes away in a few seconds and does not return during that trip. No SES lights or signs that the car is running different. I have re-seated the gas cap but no luck. I searched on this forum and via google but found very little useful info. Anyone else get this message and have an idea as to what might be the cause?

My guess is to check the gas cap to make sure it is screwed on tight.

I got a similar message when my gas cap was not tight.

The seal on the gas cap can stop sealing as well, causing occasional issues. Got get a new cap and you should be good. They are cheap, and easy to install
Replacing mine took care of the issue for me.

I have had similar problem and replaced Filler cap with new OEM BMW cap and have just had messages start popping back up. Anybody else experienced this? Yes, definitely checked cap tightness as well.

I believe i have one of the fuel sealing rings failing as well (strong gas smell outside car with full tank) so this maybe be partly to blame but interested to hear if anyone else has a take on this.

Thanks,

Tom
