My name is Dan and I'm from the upper Baltimore area. I just recently purchased a 2001 M5 in Carbon Black with Black Interior w/wood trim. I purchased it with 36222 miles and was able to buy it for under $20K after a modest trade in.
It is the first car that I have personally bought, but I am not new to the BMW driving experience. My parents both sware by BMW(My Mom only does cause my Dad makes her) so I have a lot of experience with 325's and 330's. Never a beast and never a M-series for that matter.
I pick her up from the dealership tomorrow(Thursday) and will immediately upload pics unless I have trouble doing so.
Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. This is my first day as a member but almost all my research on e39 M5 before I bought it was done through this site. I love what you guys have done and what this site offers.
Welcome! I to researched on here too for months before picking up my '03 and come from a family of BMW's (pops '00 M5, mom '98 M3/4, and myself '97 M/3/4). The knowledge base here is phenomenal. I've spent many an all-nighter reading, searching, researching...enjoy the new ride!

Welcome from NE Baltimore. Congrats on the purchase. I just finished up some maintenance items on mine. I got it in Jan from a BMW dealer in SC. You'll love it.
Now the next thing you have to do is get a BMW CCA membership. There's a Summer Tour coming up in August and we're starting the drive in Ellicott City.
I've only been here for about two months and I can tell you that being part of this forum is probably one of the wisest things any beast owner (or soon-to-be-owner) can do. Such a wealth of information and help here. Ultimately, let's hope every single beast owner around the globe will end up here. Enjoy your new beast (only 36K miles!) and please post lots of pics.
