53 hours seems kinda short for a road trip covering that distance.
It looks like fun, though. When do you think you'll be hitting NYC?

Great looking trip you have planned! I experienced tail of the dragon a couple years ago in an M6 and would highly recommend it. They have a website devoted to the road: link below.
Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC
Not sure how much time you have for the trip, but I would highly recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway, and/or Skyline Drive as well. You can get all the way from the middle of Virginia to Tail of the Dragon on these roads. All very scenic and twisty!
Welcome to the Blue Ridge Parkway
