Strange, my dealer wouldn't take the title which I thought was weird. Anyways, good luck dude.

Whoa, I guess I was lucky. That does seem rather odd though, providing your name matches that of the one on the title.

Had you chosen the hammer-to-the-head smilie, all those comments would not have appeared! For example (with slightly different facts):

M5 ruined the night by permitting me to fill the trunk with three cases of PBR, letting me drink the hell out of it with my buddy, then trapping my keys safely in the trunk.

I only have one key too. When I open the boot ('trunk') I put my keys in my pocket.
I did catch myself once put the keys on the trunk floor, as I was doing something, and scolded myself & never done that again..
Before I shut the lid, I always pat my pockets. If my keys are in there, I then shut the lid.

I should seriously go get a second key, but the dealers here are so hard to deal with, and they always lose parts that I order in. I hate walking in there.

Replaced 90% of the car in either broken/worn out parts, or as preventative maintenance. But at least it drives great

There are ways to open te trunk in the E39 when it is locked and even if the alarm is activated. without breaking the lock or trunk

A friend of mine locked the keys in the trunk and called Tripple A here in the Netherlands.

I am not telling how, because i like my m5 and i know you guys also

What did happen to me was that my little dogg locked the car with the key was in the ignition.

And i had to walk from left to right for 20 min before the dogg stept on the central locking button.

I am not sure if it will do this after the alarm has sounded. I could try tonight if that helps you.

I already got a second key and picked up my car today, but it would be interesting to know if this happens to someone else.

There should be 4 keys with any BMW. Two of the normal fully functional keys which can remotely open the boot, close all the windows by holding the lock button down, etc.

One Valet key with a grey end that you can give to...a valet which will lock the car, start the car but will not work on the glovebox, boot, or the lock on the folding rear seats.

The last key is the wallet key. Its very small and black and is designed for...your wallet? Its for when you lock your keys in the car.

Really, we should all have all 4. I only had one myself and bought a second normal key, even though I'm dead poor right now. BMW dealers can 'de code' any missing keys from your car so that should a previous owner find them, they won't work.

I think it's about $60.
I ordered one last year and keep it at home for emergency.

The key is pretty durable. You can unlock any doors and even start the car with it.
You're kidding, right? You can start the car with the plastic key?!

Do we not have any sort of anti-theft beyond the fact that our key is a weird shape?
