Odd MAS question

Im building a cai, and started wondering what would happen if I moved my mafs and housing further away from the front of the engine. I mean closer to the opening in the bumper. I would have pipe on either side, and a filter in the bumper ( like the Dinan and Cosmo). If I made it flow still as straight as possible like it is now would there be any adverse affects? has anyone tried or ever heard of this?

Thanks, Ches

Dinan CAI's have the MAFS situated much further down - I beleive to try and prevent damage as per our notorious 50k life expectancy of them. One theory is that the heat soak causes them to die quicker than expected. As they do it, Im sure it wont be an issue. Would the inlet pipe need to be the same to simulate the same rate of airflow to prevent ECU confusion or does it just measure tempreture?

PS - No one will mention your reference to 'MAS' rather than MAF I'm sure...

MAFS!!! I bought a 3inch intercooler piping kit. Its pretty nice stuff, all mandrel bent, and the kit also had 6silicone couplers and two 90deg elbows. I wanted to put the 90 on each side, run a length of pipe to a coupler attached to the MAFS!, the a coupler on the other side of the housing down to my filter. I just didnt want to put a 2inch piece of pipe then attach to the MAFS. I think it would be to cluttered with clamps. Also I thought if it was closer to the opening of the bumper that it may/or may not be cooler, I really wanted to make sure I wouldnt throw any crazy codes just by placing it further down.

No reason why moving the MAF to a different location should have any impact at all. Introducing additional piping, elbows, etc, is a whole different story...
