Track Day at Miller Motorsports Park

Last week I finally got out to the track for the first time in a while. Miller has a world-class facility and both sides were open for a 4.5 mile lap. I put my extra set of rears and spacers on the front with new PS2s and as usual the car surprised me. For being such a pig, it really handles well with the Dinan suspension and 275s up front. I had to brake several times to avoid rearendinig regular 911s and even an Elise driven by a beginner. GT3s and Z06s got waved by immediately, but I was about 7th in my group of 12 and several of them where trailored in track-only cars. My new radiator fixed the overheating problem, although oil temp. started to climb 6 or 7 needle widths past vertical and I had to let up on the last lap of each period to let it cool down. I had one very hot lap where I felt good about everything, but as you can see from the second photo, physics can't be denied.

Why are the windows down in most piks I see of cars at "Track Days"? I can see a benefit to them being slightly down but not all the way.

The windows are down for safety. Less glass flying around if you bump.

Cool Mike. Hope you didn't have too many off the track excursions.

A 4.5 mile track must have been fun. I would imagine you could really get up some speed.

Were you there with a particular group (BMW CCA, SCCA, etc.)?

Any in car videos?

I have a video taken from a distance that isn't too exciting. Only one off track excursion and although I screwed up that same corner the next two laps and missed the apex, I did finally start getting it right by the end of the day and started gaining two car lengths through "attitude" and "First attitude." A track this long has around 30 corners to memorize and one or two of them were tricky.
