How to remove light scratches on 16:9 widescreen display

I've just bought a secondhand 16:9 widescreen display from an e39 M5 that's being broken and when I recieved the unit there were a few light scratches on the display - nothing serious and only probably visible with the display off but enough to bug me!

I've done a fair amount of googling site which revealed various plastic polishes - such as this - Displex - HOME - however the nav display like that of many laptops has a matte finish and I read reports that plastic polish is unsuitable for these surfaces. From searching this site I couldn't find any posts that indicated anyone had tackled this before but I'm sure that someone out there must have!

As I don't want to ruin the display I'm a little cautious and have bought a widescreen screen protector here: ToysInYourCar.com - 16:9 Screen Protector - which might make them less visible.

Has anyone else successfully fixed a lightly scratched display?

Not sure how to fix the scratches, but I have read that the screen is covered in a thin film.

I have read that there is a coating (anti-glare) on the screen. If it is scratched, there's not much you can do, other than remove the entire coating, or find some anti-glare solution to cover them. (Same thing happened to my Wife's Mini, but it is a fairly large area that has been compromised.)

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried some brasso on an old matte finish laptop screen (similar in finish to the nav screen), and it removed the scratches but the matte finish too So I guess that's not the route I'll take with the nav - especially as the scratches are very slight. I think I'll clean it and then apply the screen protector I've ordered and see if that makes the scractes less noticeable. Here's hoping.

Hi - sorry for not replying sooner. I got the screen protector from here ToysInYourCar.com - 16:9 Screen Protector and it fits just fine. Just make sure that your screen is clean and has no dust whatsoever before you apply the film!
