Clutch Squeak???

Anyone ever heard a squeak noise from there clutch on a shift?

Brand new clutch. 5k miles on it. Heard it a couple times right after the clutch was installed... Just curious... doesn't feel like anything is wrong just a slight squeak on a quick shift wrapping through the gears..... Funny enough its only doing it right now on a 2nd to 3rd gear shift.

Is it only when you depress the clutch pedal, and does the noise come from outside or inside the car? If it is from the outside, I have the same problem. Curious as to what it could be also.

Clutch release lever has a "cup" in one end where the clutch slave cylinder rod attaches to. When dry, it makes a squeking noise while pressing the clutch pedal... if noise is heard inside, just the pedal pivot point needs some lubrication.

I had this problem but you could hear it from inside and outside. Dealer diagnosed it as a bad pressure plate. Probably had it for 5k miles or more and it was very faint at first and got worse over time.

They put in a complete clutch kit (clutch/pp/throw out). I also had the pilot bearing replaced at the same time since it's cheap and CPO was paying labor. Not sure if it was the PP or not at the end of the day, but it made sense.

You should understand that BMWs seem to have a problem with some clutch pedal assemblies. That's been true for years. My 323is squeaked when new (I picked it up in Munich, and it squeaked). Sometimes never (had a couple of BMWs that never squeaked).

I would carefully spray some penetrating oil (or maybe WD-40) on the pivots, but not sure that will work as there is plastic in there somewhere. I never did anything with my squeaks. Just a minor irritation. Just don't "douse" the pivots as excess lubricant will drip.

Also, that may not be the squeak you hear.

Thanks for the input everyone... But I am fairly sure this isn't coming from the pedal but from the clutch itself inside the housing of the tranny...

As said before, take the slave cylinder away, a dip of grease on the rod and you should be fine.... The rod is supposed to be lubricated during clutch change.

My dealer tried to blame the squeeking on a noisy clutch pedal assembly. They wanted to charge $125 to dissasemble/lubricate parts. I told them they where crazy because you could hear it OUTSIDE the car. So I went on my way. Came back months later with a few more thousand miles. Complained of the same problem and they replaced the clutch.

FWIW - I didn't have my clutch slave cylinder replaced as part of this work. It's still original.

This solved my noise as well. You will hear it again when the lube wears down.
