I know what bulbs we are talking about, but all the bulbs have been a very bright white. Do they not offer them in an amber color, to retain the OEM look and feel of the cabin? The white white white is a bit too rice for me, if they offer them in amber ill definitely get some. I know they make amber LEDs
The OEM bulbs are not amber, they are just a regular element bulb. You can try to put an amber LED light in there if you wish, but then it WILL look ricey if you ask me. Your car's interior will appear to be a red night club dance floor or something. Look at your stick shift, those are amber LEDs. Now imagine that in your overhead interior lights. This is one of those things where if you want OEM look and feel, stick with OEM. I wanted a VERY BRIGHT interior and an accent color for my footwells (blue). I got EXACTLY what I wanted.

The amber that you are thinking of are NOT for the map lights, those are for the accent lights NEXT to the map lights. The map lights OEM are white. The only 2 amber lights in the car (besides the electronics and gauges) are the back-lit shift-knob and the accent lights.

I'm on vacation with the wife here in Hawaii but I thought I'd chime in here really quick and offer my thoughts and help out Tim and the others:
1) You can NEVER please everybody. And this is the reason for my disclaimer on pretty much all of my posts.
2) That the reason I post here is for info sharing. That if you want to do my mods - here's the step by step DIY procedures.
3) That if the mods I do is too bright, too dim, to ricey for others - then the mods I do is NOT for you.
4) I dont post here asking for approval or asking people whether they like mods I do or not. Remember that we are all different, whay may be good for me may not be good for others, that 'to each is his own" and as long as we are happy with our own mods and our property - that is all that matters.
As Tim have mentioned - this mod is not completely plug and play. You will HAVE to read my post to get the full story and not just jump in, then ask questions later. We all need to do our own home work.
I still dont understand why but BMW uses different types of bulbs in their cars. Different in the trunk (some are festoon, some are 194 type; different on the doors (on my M6, bulb type is 194, on my M5, it was 39mm festoon; different size between the vanity mirror bulb and interior festoon (39mm and 44mm), etc. Why cant BMW just use one size I have no clue. Thus, this is the reason for the complication of this mod.
So, to all the newbies, do your homework like everybody else please. Take the time to read all the posts and undestand what you are getting into before you jump on this so that Tim and the others wont have to make the time to answer the questions when all the answers are already on my original or other peoples posts.
Anyway, time to get back on vacation mode. It is so nice here in Hawaii. A little warm (88F) but so beautiful. Time to get back to some sightseeing and spend time with the wife.
And time for some folks to read all the posts and thank Tim and the others for organizing this group buy and helping out others.
BTW, yes, there are different color LED's out there. It will be up to you to decide what color you want and order your own specific color. This group buy that Tim organized is for bright white color LED's.
A big thank you to Tim for being kind enough to organize this group buy and spend his own precious time helping out other members.

This can be a plug and play install, you just have to take everything apart first and write down what parts you need. Apparently like whattheheck said, no one's BMW seems to have the same lights. Mine took (4)44mm under every door, (2)44 mm in the C pillar, (2)44mm for the trunk, (1)44mm for the dome, and (1)39mm in the glovebox.

WAIT A MINUTE. So you don't even need that 194 spade bulb either? AND your trunk took (2) 44mm, not (2) 39mm?
- That's 3 different trunk set ups I've seen. I'm done.......
So I got bored the other day and ordered 2 ba9s bulbs from Superbrightleds.com. I got the ones in the picture below and will install them into the map lights in the dome light assy. I'll also check to see if they will fit into the C pillar map lights, but they might be too long. Will report back with fitment and light output...

If they are the same color, superwhite, and are bright enough, I can send an email to superbrightleds.com and see if/what kind of discount they can give us with a group buy.
I was actually going to do the same thing Bryan, thanks for taking that on!
