Battery dead/trunk won't open to charge it

I just went to unlock my 2000 M5, and the battery is dead. I want to charge the battery, but can't get in the trunk to access it. I tried using the key in the trunk, but it does help. Does anyone have any knowledge about this one. I sure would appreciate some help. I quickly did a search, but could not find an appropriate thread/comment.

Thanks,

Clay

You can charge it from the engine bay. There is a positive terminal on the front driver side of your intake plenum. Also you can open the trunk with your key but it is kind of tricky from what I remember. I believe you must make the key turn all the way to the left, and the trunk will pop open.

I freaked out a couple days ago because I had disconnected the battery and then accidentally shut the trunk. I was really relieved to be able to open the trunk with the key. It was a bit tricky and it took a couple tries.

I had this happen to me because my trunk actuator solenoid died- put the key in the lock & twist it all the way to the left (hard anti-clockwise), past the point of resistance- the lid will pop open.

The trunk lock actually has a mechanical steel rod linkage from the lock barrel to the lock mechanism, in case of an electrical malfunction- so it will always open regardless of if the battery is dead. (It says this in your owners manual & I have actually seen the rod linkage myself)

Thanks, for the posts on the trunk opening with the key. I will disconnect the battery before charging. It is totally dead, but is one of those dry batteries(forget the name now) and is supposed to be good for bringing it up again with very little degradation. I took it out last weekend and drove it for a while, but let the back door ajar.

I had the same exact problem. It caught me completely off guard. What I did was I hooked up another car to the battery terminals up front and then hit the unlock button on my key fob. Basically, hook up your car to another as if you were going to jump start it so your car is using power coming from the other car's battery. Then just make sure you don't shut the trunk all the way until you have your new battery .

Push the car and jump start it by popping the clutch in 2nd gear, my battery just died but i live on a 16% incline hill so i had no problem getting moving.
