Wheel refinishing / repainting

So...

While I feel my M5 is in very good condition for its age/mileage overall I think the area for the greatest improvement cosmetically right now are the rims.
I know there are may options out there, but I was toying with the idea of repainting them myself...with DupliColor.

I've used the product before to repaint lug bolt holes on a set of rims where that area had suffered clear-coat yellowing. I was very satisfied with the results on that touched up area. And I've seen detailed pix online of fully repainted rims. Looks good to me!

I know the coolness of the shadow chrome would be gone forever, but so would the poor durability. And by doing it myself I'd be able to make any repairs in the future for free.

Just wondering if anyone had gone nuts one day and repainted their rims standard silver. I figure even if it doesn't go to well I could swap 'em out for 4 refinished ones up in Bath, PA...which was my first thought. Then I saw the pricetag!

Pics of standard silver on a LMB would be a bonus...to show to "the boss."

I'm interested in this as well. I have one rear rim that has several areas of peeling and looks like crap. I just justify getting them professionally redone especially after just refreshing my suspension refreshed.

a video...

I like this guys video:

How to refinish wheels using Dupli-Color wheel paint | Wonder How To

Also I dig his idea of doing graphite (dupicolors gunmetal name) first and then silver to try and make it darker. I wonder is using black first THEN silver would sorta mimic shadow chrome. Never woulda thought of that on my own.
