Do you just have the catback (i.e. no SS xpipe, etc)? If so, how is the sound?
Def go with the 83mm tips. They fit the rear difuser perfectly.
Per my previous cars, exhaust to me was always one of the things I liked best when it came to mods... So I did it right this time with the M5 and bought my exhaust as one of my first mods.
I have the eisenmann race and initially just installed the rear cans. I wanted to try it without the x-pipe and see if I would be happy. Had it for a few months and then opted for the x-pipe.
The sound gets quite louder with the X-pipe and to me it is perfect. The sound is controllable pending on RPM being driven. There is going to be a drone right at 2k, but that is with pretty much any aftermarket setup. Beyond that, there is no drone. I did have my system welded when I had my x-pipe installed as there have been people who systems leak where the x-pipe and cats connect. Just find a reputable shop to install and you should be good. When I had just the rear cans, I installed them myself and used the provided clamp with no issue.
It is a tad loud at cold startup for the first minute or so, after that, it is close to stock at idle.

You can see my sig for mods, but I have Supersprint headers and cats, stock resonator(no x-pipe), and Eisenmann Sport mufflers. The Eisenmann come in either Sport or Race, with the Race obviously louder. When I added the Supersprint headers and cats, the sound volume increased considerably. Sound is such a subjective thing, it's hard to recommend one set up over another. Some think the louder the better. My car is my daily driver so I did not want it too loud. I think it's perfect for what I was looking for. The x-pipe adds sound volume and adds a bit of a raspier tone. I was looking for more of a deeper sound so I chose to leave the resonator in place.
ECB summed it up pretty well as far as sound goes. I have Eisenmann Sport mufflers as well, with the Supersprint X-pipe. Not sure what you are looking for in sound but this set up is definitely not quiet, but not ridiculously loud either. It sounds aggressive but I can see how some would call it a bit raspy, but it really is not that bad. On a very cold start up it is quite loud for about a minute and then it settles down so that at idle you cannot hear the exhaust. It has a bit of drone below 2,000 rpm if you put your foot in it a, but I find it bearable - I just do my best to avoid it. I think it would be perfect with a pair of high flow, straight through resonators welded in. That way, it would still be louder than the stock resonator, but the sound would be a bit cleaner.
And for your original question, I would recommend going with 83mm tips as well. My car has them and it looks great - fills the rear valance very nicely compared to stock. Not at all excessive either, very tasteful IMO.
