Advice needed: Lexus SC300 for M6, Should I Trade?
While the E39 M5 is my pride and joy, my daily driver is a 92 Lexus SC300, 5 speed.
I love my car, 98,650 miles and never spent a dime on repairs, brakes, clutch, battery and even wiper blades. The reliability is unmatched.
I just found a 88 M635CSI. Basically the M6 is the same value as my Lexus.
Question is, should I trade? I realize the M6 will cost more to upkeep/maintain in the long run. But the look and driving fun could make up for it.
Advics please.
Thanks.

I have heard that it is amazing to drive...the thing is like you said the cost could be huge to maintain...but if the car has been well looked after and has had proper dealer maintainence..i could see it lasting for a seriously long time...And just imagine how much fun it would be to own..what a scream!
Personally i'd go for it
have fun deciding!
All the best

I would personally go for the M6. I would be willing to deal with the quirks. The E39 M5 is different in so many ways from the M's of the past. You have to do a lot of preventative maintenance . The E24 M6 has the exact same engine as the E28 M5, so information and parts aren't scarce. It is a purebred racing engine of M1 lineage, so they will require your attention a lot more than a E39 M5.
The M6 is a classic BMW. I have never owned a Lexus, so I really don't know much about them. But, I know that M6 will give you many miles of driving pleasure.

I love the M6. I coincidentally saw a red one on my way home from school and that car's looks still has me turning my head 180 degrees.

CP, I'm probably going to get lynched for this, but I say keep the Lexus....
The early M cars are great to have around, wonderful to drive, but as a daily driver the Lexus is a smoother, easier, cheaper and more practical car to keep in your stable IMHO.
If you buy the M6, then you will will have two "pride and joy's". You will want to wash it every week; modify it; you will worry in parking lots, etc.

Im going with the rest too. As they said, you will be paying $$$ to maintain that baby. But in return you will get another car with a small ///M on the side and oh boy hear it scream when you put your foot to the metal!! Go FoR iT

My 2c
My Uncle had an M635csi when I was younger. First time I ever went faster than 125 MPH in a car ever !!
I'll never forget the sension, the sound and the slight tremble in the buttock region .... for that reason alone I'd go for it .

I say pass on the 635csi
Look for the real M6. Now that's a collector's item that you will end up cherishing and be afraid to park anywhere. Kinda like the M5
I have first hand experience with how hideously expensive the older M cars are to maintain, assuming you can find a qualified mechanic to work on them.
If you can make it to O'fest, there will be tons of senior M cars there in impecable condition. Some might be for sale.
Bottom line, keep the Lexi (for now)

Real M6 !!! Coming home from a night at the movies (a big thing when you have a newborn!!!) I caught something out of the corner of my eye. As I approached, it was, no wait, could it be...yep, an M6. I pulled along side, rolled down my window and said, "Nice, very nice." We exchanged smiles and nods as I proceeded onward. Definitely a Kodak moment.

I freakin' LOVE M6's. I wish I owned one. Someday, maybe. I'll expect to spend some serious $$ to get it perfect, though. Any performance c ar with that many miles can have seen some pretty hard use, and engines can be begin to fail around 100K miles. I understand a new cylinder head will set you back $5K or so - parts ain't cheap. If you're prepared for that, I think the M6 is classic, rare, beautiful and worth the trouble. Can I have a ride?

I believe the "official" name of the car as marketed in europe WAS M635csi - so I'm not sure this is NOT a "real" one - might have been grey-marketed.
