          My Babies First Dent

A couple weeks ago I parked in a crowded Mall parking lot. I knew, as I walked away that I was just asking for ding, but I was rushed and knew I'd only be parked there for a minute or two.

As I came hurrying out of the mall I was stunned by the sight of a gigantic crease dent in the otherwise pristine M5's door! It was a long verticle dent with white paint on it. The person parked next to me must have put in alot of effort into slamming their door into mine.

Luckily, the Dentor had fled the scene, so I was unable to take my rage out on anyone.

A freind of mine who is a Paintless Dent Removal Technician, swore he could remove it. I was skeptical. He came over, rolled down my passenger side window, and immediately began jamming strange tools down in the door. He fiddled with funny lights and tools for about a half hour and slowly, he massaged the entire dent out! Then, he rubbed some cream on the white paint stuck to my car and rubbed the mark completely out.

I tell you it looks perfect, now! He said if I was a regular customer he would have charged me about $100. I was so amazed at how easily (and cheaply) this terrible looking dent was fixed, I just wanted to share it with you guys. Paintless Dent Removal is A OK in my book.

My Mother (84 years old) lives with us. She has maids come in and clean her area.

When the maids left they did her a "favor" and took out the trash.

Well, they took a short cut through the garage and managed to drag the trash container along the front fender of my M5.

I can feel the scratches. I just hope they will polish out.

Kent B, I fortunately dont have any dent yet. (and hopefully never) But I heard Dent Wizards do great work. Glad it all worked out.

Bart, I feel you pain. As my Bluewater "brother" I remember my first paint chip. It was and still very painful. I guess I am a freak for being so crazy about the paint. Go figure.

Ouch! It hurts just thinking about a metal trash can scraping against an M5!

          Kent,

Shortly after I married my wife I scored a new M3 for her. Even though she couldn't fully appreciate it I tricked up that car to the Nth degree. While pregnant with our first child she saw a "Bubba" (old disheveled pickup truck owner here in Texas) drive off after inflicting a similar door dent. At this time in the pregnancy she couldn't chase down this pillar of society so I took a chance on Dent Masters as well. I met the guy at the door and asked if I could watch. He couldn't have been a more nicer guy or better craftsman and removed the crease exactly as you recounted. Unbelievable! Now we have two little ones and she parks her current vehicle in 'the back forty' in order to avoid those inconsiderate drivers.

Bart - hopefully those scratches will buff out! So sorry to hear!

Kent, so glad it is ok.

Bart, that maid-with-trashcan story is horrific. Right now, I'm imagining the horrible sound the can makes as the beast winces in pain.

My White 95 M3 was in a parking lot when an incredible hail storm started - when I got home and was able to examine the car in the garage... ....imagine a golf ball on wheels - every surface facing up looked like a big golf ball - in the hundreds of dime-sized dents.

I got an estimate from BMW and then talked to a friend who was in the storm also with a brand new car. He had just gotten his back from a dent removal service - so I took the M3 in and in a week it came back with only a few small dents left along the roof edge where they just couldn't get to. I almost fell over - it was like a miracle!

And, I got to pocket 1/2 the insurance money since the adjuster had already cut me a check for the body shop estimate.

I second(or third) the opinion regarding paintless dent removal. I got a dent a few month back and our local paintless remover(Carisma in PA) took care of it for $75. Was on rear 1/4 panel and is now invisible. Seemed to take greater care on this car than my others, since it's an M5.

Sorry to say, but door dings are something you can't avoid unless you don't drive. There's always some situation that comes up that results in one about 1x a year(I park waaaay out there and still return to find some car hugging mine all alone)

          Jessem,

I'm glad to hear my M5 is not the only one to occassionally get a door ding. Sometimes I feel guilty that I actually use mine as a daily driver.

It's good to know that other people occassionally leave their M5 unattended in parking lots as well.

BTW: I know what you mean about parking far away and finding other cars huddled against you. LOL! Why does that happen?

Not sure why there's some sort of cluster mentality, but I don't mind if it's a MB or Porsche, they probably figure I won't dent them. It's when I return and there's some 20yr old generic piece of s--t that likely isn't insured much less caring, right next to me.

I remember one sunday at about 8:30 I went to the local Home Depot to pick up something and I went to park in my normal waaay out location and there's an MB s600 and a Ferrari out in my normal area. Like minds!

Im prob the same way as most here. In 3.5 yrs I have had only one dent on my current car...the method to my madness? at the mall, use valet only (in the case of the m5, i would park it up fron and give the kid 10 bucks to LEAVE IT THERE). Anywhere else, park it so there is only 1 side with a car next to it (by a curb), or like someone said "the back forty" far away from any mothers and KIDS in a minivan or some hick in a old beat up pickup.
