Lotus Elise for the States!

For allou guys who might be interested, Lotus has announced that the Elise will be brought into the states in the fall of 2003.
My local Lotus dealer gladly accepted my $500 deposit and I am #1 on the list.
I had to actually inform them that the car was coming after having read about it in the newest edition of autoweek.
At first they were skeptical until they called Lotus HQ and found out that it ws true.
So get those checkbooks out a place your order. As you know, the Elise is probably one of the most formidable track car you can get. The MSRP is suppose to be around $40,000.

Speedvision (can't remember the exact program it was??) did a bit on this car about a week or two ago while I was watching...and MAN oh MAN!! That is one sweet little buggy?!!

I could definitely go for one of those for the track? Of course, I'd have to get rid of the Cobra R and I love it too much! For you guys looking for a great track car? - This is IT!!!

love the Lotus Elise - usually rent it or a Porsche boxster when i'm in europe/germany.

however, while great at the lower speeds, it gets a bit skittish and downright hairy at anything over 110 mph or so.

here's some pics of the lotus...

Wow, thats always been the best track car there is! Perfect low $$$ fun and I always loved looking at the one at Prestige Exotic in Miami that couldn't be titled.

I'm a little worried though at what may happen in the transformation to "US ready". From what I recall a few years ago, they said it could never come here as the bumpers are not even close to being correct, the windshields are much too thin, the doors are basically just skins, etc. If they fix all that now to meet US standards, whats gonna happen to that great power/weight ratio???

I just hope it doesn't end up here as one of those nice looking but underperforming federalized European cars.
