need help pulled peak codes.......

ive used a peak code reader and pulled code 1b DM-TL switching valve
and AA secondary air system flow to low, this is the 2nd time this code has come up together atter 4 cold start up, ive done a search but i havent found anything for code 1b and im still unsure how the secondary air system works so i can take steps to diagnose the problem, i know it has something to do with a pump that sits somewhere behind the front bumper that pumps air into the engine to warm up the cats also something about carbon build up but i live in the UK so i dont see why it would set the ses light off ie emissions laws, could some one explane or provide a link regarding the codes above thanks in advance

DM-TL refers to the Diagnostic Module - Tank Leakage. It is the module designed to determine whether the vapors from your gas tank are escaping when they shouldn't. This is likely what set off your SES.

As for AA, that is indeed the carbon build-up code. There is nothing more to do to diagnose it - you have it and the recourse (should it also be setting your SES light) is either to have the carbon cleaned out of the head or to get a Powerchip upgrade to ignore the out of range signal.

Right - Carbon build-up. That guy had 3F, which is an air pump problem. You have AA, which is lack of airflow.

I don't mean to patronise, as I'm sure you have read the manual and the countless threads etc, but just in case, can you confirm you pulled an actual code 1b, and it wasn't just the Peake telling you which code table to use? I have to say I'm confused by this myself as I've only just started using a Peake. All the threads say that the ONLY table for an M5 is 18, but mine has only ever said 1b so far. As in a lower case b, not an 8 or an upper case B, or even a 6 (going by the sticky anyway).

There were a few Peake readers that showed the wrong table. The current ones are correct ... 18 is the table.

Mine does the same thing, says Table 1b rather than 18. Nonetheless, 18 is the correct table to use for the M5.

Good to know it's not just me - cheers. I figured it was the wrong one as 1b only references 6 cylinders! Most codes are the same on both mind. The only codes I've had since I got my Peake are generic ones which are the same on both tables, such as AA & E8 & 91.

Anyone else have this? Does it show 1b as a default, and then 18 when it's 8 cylinder M5 specific?

Just wanted to comment on this 1b issue. This is the first that shows up on my peake-reader after pressing Fc. I contacted Peake and they informed me that 1b EQUALS Table 18.

- btw, I also have a AA code - and a fully functional secondary air pump. Also, my repairshop cleaned out a clogged valve to no avail. For me the system is clearly clogged but as it has no impact on engine longevity nor performance I will not proceed to clean out the entire system - to expensive. Perhaps I will have this Powerchip upgrade to mask the problem.
