20" wheel question

Is anyone running with 20's on an E39 M5? If so what size offset and what size tire combo? I am looking at 20x8.5's and 20x10's staggered but want to make sure it can be done without rubbing.....the wheels that I am looking at are a 20mm offset......Thanks

20mm front, rear, or both?

remember to keep your tire in mind too, different tires have different tires walls. michelin ps2 for example run a stretch, while goodyears are square. that can make a big difference especially if you are lowered.

My car had 20" iForged rims on it when i got it. Car would rub in the rear after a heavy hit on the suspension.. Have not had that issue since putting the 18's back on..
If you do a history search on me you will see the measurements I took with 18s vs 20s.
Matt

Yeah, 20mm front and rear....I believe stock offset is 20f and 22r?

I had 20" as well. The tires in order not to rub when hitting hard bumps would need be to 245/30/20 and 285/25/20. I rant his size as well as a few others. It is not as bad as you would think also they are really low in profile. The offsets were about the same. I ran an 11" rear.

I would advise against 20" wheels, it ruins the ride and the handling, I think Bmw knows best for putting 18's on!!

20s are pushing it on the E39. The 19s are the real optimum for the size and performance compromise IMO.

I've got 20's in...

Original BMW Style 101M (from Sports 760Li) staggered rims (F= 9" & R =10").
Since the offset was 100% correct, I only had the center bore drilled out to fit my 5 series (only because I wanted these rims).
Running on Pirelli P-Zero Nero in the size: 245/30/20 (front) & 285/25/20 (rear).
You need this low of a profile on 20's or you'll look like a hick in a 4x4.
Also keep in mind that some 20" designs look too big for the e39 body.
PLEASE, only take clearance advice from someone that's been running a correct setup, with less than 3% variance from stock diameter.
In your case.....I guess...you need to speak to someone who is running on the same 20" offset.
I orginally feared a harsh ride, but suprisingly was proven wrong.
My car runs smooth on stock M-Tech II sports suspension (not much differrent than M5) w/out any rubbing what-so-ever.
One just has to keep an eye on tire pressure and avoid potholes.
The only change I will make is eventually switch my front size to 255/30/20, which esthetically looks better with a 9" rim.

Good Luck !
