Michelin PS 2's

I just squeezed 33,000 miles out of the last set - actually, I probably had 5K more - they just got too loud.

In the almost 185,000 original miles that I have owned this car, these are definitely the best tires that I have had.

The primary reason for the extended mileage that I receive on the tires comes from high PSI - I run 45 all the way around - I hope this does not spark a PSI debate - it works very well for me.

What I wanted to let all of you know is something the Luke at the Tirerack told me.

Some of us have been waiting for the new version of Michelin tires for our car - PS3's perhaps? - well, Luke told me that Michelin HAS upgraded the PS2's and they are now on the 3rd version of this tire.

He said that this version is an even better tire especially in the rain.

Just an FYI.

That is good news, I have run PS2 s on my last car. And have them on the front of Beast as well. The previous owner put Pilot Sport A/S on the rear. A good tire but not nearly as sticky as the PS 2 in my opinon. I will probably go to PS2s all the way around next time.

I'm at 20k on my current set of PS2's. Not entirely happy with the mileage but I do drive a bit hard at times and tend to wear off a bit more rubber than I should.

I've just received a set of 9.5" rims with 80% PS2's on them to replace the front set of 8"ers, I'll be mounting them after I take one last trip up to the Grand Canyon to finish off the current set. The I'll be putting a new set of PS2's on the rear as well so I hope the have the tires for another 2 years there as well.

The year round driving here allows me to make the most of them. PS3's?? Hmmm........

Now that is interesting. My previous owner put brand new PS2s on the rear, and brand new Pilot Sport A/S on the front! So that is the setup I currently have on my car. Kind of like the street version of a drag slick on the rear and a street tire on the front??

I do notice that in heavy rain at highway speeds in a straight line the A/S's have much better grip. And that is with them cutting a path through the water for the rear PS2s.

tranck,

That's good news. I don't have many miles on mine but I thought the inside portion of the rears wear faster than the outside. So you needed to replace the rear tires sooner than usual.

thats because of the aggressive camber on our cars. any tire you put on an e39 with stock camber will eat the inside before the outside. you can have the camber set to 0, then you will have even wear.

Wow, that's brilliant - I seldom get more than 20,000 out of my rears - a lot more from the front, but those rears are damn expensive. PS2s are the best for the M5 in my opinion though; worth the cash. Good to see you getting your moneys worth from the car too - you'll be a member of the rather exclusive 200k club soon

+1. I guess you could go all the way to zero, but at the very least have your shop set them as straight up as the BMW alignment range specs allow. That's what I did on my car. I think the minimum is 1 or maybe 1.6 degree negative camber, but I could be remembering it wrong.
