"Angel" or "Angle" eyes?

There's a lot of discussion of these on this board. I had always assumed they were "angel eyes," but I see so many people writing "angle eyes" that I'm starting to wonder which is correct. Neither one makes any literal sense; they're not particularly angelic, nor are they at all angular.

So: "angel eyes," as in the ocular organs of a heavenly denizen? Or "angle eyes," which appears to be an ethnic slur against Asians? Which is it?

Dwasifar,

It's without a doubt "angel eyes" as in heavenly. Believe the two rings or halos prompted BMW to come up with the term. In no way is it an ethnic slur!

I think that it's a common type-o sort of like when people confuse the use of 'their' vs. 'there'.

I just did this aesthetic upgrade and it's awesome! And it added another 25hp, right guys?

Regards,

DWP

David Lee Roth...j/k

Diamond Dave is correct about the Naming and why it's called angEl.

LOL on the 25 HP... I've been a motor head since the late 70s and we used to pick on a friend that actually believed the 'hurst' shifter gave 5 HP.
Thanks for the memory...

Parking lamp rings, hm? That brings up another question - what are parking lights for, officially? I had a discussion about this the other day. I said I used my parking lights for when I'm stopped and standing in a running car, say for instance on the shoulder looking at a map, or at the curb waiting for someone to come out of a store. She says she'd use her flashers for that. I said I'd save the flashers for when the car was an actual hazard - parked in a moving lane, for example, or traveling excessively slowly. But it made me realize I don't really KNOW what the rule is, I've just always assumed based on the nomenclature (parking lights if you're parked, hazard flashers if you're a hazard). Anyone have any light to shed on the issue?

I have to agree with diamond dave on the name. They do look like halos. As for the 25hp, I didnt get that from the upgrade. But my car does have x-ray vision now.

UUC calls their upgrade for the E46 the devil eyes.... probably more appropriate for our car, as they do look quite devilish..

Reggie,

Looks like you live in my neck of the woods. We need to meet sometime or maybe you and I can make the Texas Hill Country drive that Andy M is organizing.

I lucked out on the lights as a few other board members have. Many owners have gone to the Euro clear turn signals for a cleaner and different look to their cars. What to do with the stock Angel Eye headlamp assemblies with the yellow turn signals? Sell them to one of us who don't mind the yellow corners! My M5 is Alpine White and I like the yellow bulbs - feel that it would look too 'washed out' with the clears. Just my opinion to all of you out there with the Euro headlamps.

I dealt with a real honest fellow who posts to the board (Mark Mueller) who sold them to me for $500. We split the $70 UPS shipping costs as well. I also had to make two y-adapters in order to power up the Angel Eye halos. Four connectors special ordered at Classic BMW in Richardson cost me about $68.

Running total: $535 + $68 = $603

I installed them myself in a few hours over the weekend. Another board member here posted some detailed instructions which helped a great deal. Email me if you want more particulars on this upgrade. It's a cool look that draws lots of attention!

BM5VIUS: Thanks for laughing at the 25hp. Loved the Hurst Shifter story!

Regards,

DWP
