Anything special about the rear axle?

Rear axle (diff) and half shafts are from the M5 donor otherwise stock touring rear subframe. Rear control arms for touring are same for M5 sedan (interesting). H&R springs all around, Koni's in back now, but Bilsteins are going in, Koni's wore out too fast. Doesn't handle like the sedan, but I'm hoping to make it close.

UHDM

It's also the Ultimate Home Depot Machine. This was taken before I deleted the roof rails and had the car painted.

Thanks.

Hmmm, unless M division thought the slight degradation in handling was enough to kill the project (and assuming they couldn't or wouldn't spend a little time sorting our rear springs and shocks to handle the extra weight and slightly better weight distribution), seems like rear axle issues indcated as the reason BMW chose not to make this available are a smokescreen.

Regards,
Jerry

i agree, and it's probably the reason the factory touring only has 8.5s in the rear - but until one of the 3-KNOWN tourings get on the nurburgring or at least do a full numbers test there still might be something to it

a top speed run would be nice

*who's going to have the FIRST DINAN S3 TOURING?*

I agree with you both. BMW only sold 891 E34 M5 tourings. I'm sure they figured they would lose money if they produced it in the E39 platform. My other touring with the stock sport self leveling handles amazing. BMW M could of tweaked it so it would be close enough. Sounds like an excuse to me. I'm happy with the way my car rides and handles, I am running the 9.5 on the back with stock 275 tires. They will scrape if I go over a big bump in the road but I think it is because of the Koni's. I have rolled the fenders twice.

-Interesting reason. My wife's 540iT handles phenomenally well with Dinan S3 suspension (nearly comparable to my M5, but with smaller tires). Check out her track videos if you don't believe me Dinan doesn't even make a rear strut tower brace for the Tourings because the rear of the chassis is already stiffer than the E39 sedan's. Never mind that Tourings have better weight distribution that sedans too
