Whinning Noise Revelation!

Recently I have been plagued by a low to high pitched whinning noise coming from my car at a speeds between 20-60 mph. I took it to my Indie and they found that it was the center support bearing. I wanted to post this because I ahve noticed that during the winter months their have been numerous threads on this type of occurrence. Thanks and CYA

Does your work order have a part number by chance? That might aid future searchers.

Part number for the center support bearing is 26122228917 according to realoem.com.

I just replaced mine this past Sunday, also changed out the guibo, and CV Joint at the end of the shaft. Unfortunetly it did not solve my whinning noise problem. I got some feed back on a previous post concerning this noise.

Whining noise from drive train???

Looks like I will tackle the wheel bearings next!

Thanks
Biz

Hi Biz,

How would you best describe your whining noise ? Is it on throttle ?

Did your centre bearing and guibo look in bad shape ?

I have a noise that sounds like a bird chirping away furiously, relative to road speed, more apparent in colder weather !

Please keep us posted.

Thanks

Kumaran

Hey M5 London,

My old guibo taken off the car looked pretty good actually, just a bit dried from age I guess, but no cracks or tears like others I have seen. The center bearing looked o.k. as well, a little weathered, but really could not see any stress marks or tears to the naked eye.

As for the noise I am getting, it starts off as a low constant whine, and becomes higher pitched constant whine as I speed up. The noise becomes apparent from about 45 mph on up. Below that speed, it is barely (if at all) noticable. It is not effected by weather, same noise summer and winter. Nor is the sound effected by taking exit ramps or putting the suspension under load around corners (I figured that would exclude the wheel bearings as being the culprint).

The noise comes when I am on the throttle, when the drivetrain is under load. When I let off the gas, the noise drastically reduces, almost disappears.

Thanks
Biz

Yeah, most people complain about the noise when letting off the throttle. Oddly, mine does it when applying throttle.

rear diff

i've had this whining noise most especially when you are gradually pressing the throttle around 45-60 mph and up. it's my differential..
i think bms's are famous for this trait. i've taken the car to different dealers and they all said it's the diff and it's normal as it ages
and gets louder over time. i've changed the diff oil and still there.

Same thing here. Started appening after my exhaust was taken off 2 weeks ago. I believe it's some sort of exhaust leak.

I too have the "bird chirping away furiously" sound.
It's rythmic and constant (not relatied to road speed and does not speed up), and only apparent in colder weather!
The noise stops when the car is warmed up.
Other than strapping the misses to the underside of the car I'm stumped!!!
