M5 Quality Control Issues?

It took me two trips to the dealer to get them to fix it on my new '02, but they finally found the brake problem, which was apparent from delivery.

The brake pads were misaligned and hitting the inside edge of the rotor! This generated some chattering feedback thru the pedal and steering, especially under hard braking.

The dealer replaced all rotors and disk pads under warranty, but the service manager made some comments about BMW not wanting to repair the brakes under warranty if I should have problems again ...

What gives with this perspective from the dealer? Are they penalized for major warranty repairs regardless of fault?

How could the brake pads be misaligned from the factory?!?

I've pretty much babied the M5 relative to its full potential ... for 120K miles, my '95 530i brakes never gave me any problem and I drove the crap out of that car... first set of brakes lasted 80K miles...

On the enjoyable side ... the M5 drives like a champ now ...

I smoked a Boxster S thru a curvy set of esses in town the other day ... he looked po'ed ...

cheers,

Steve

Mmm, sounds like there should be a number you could call and find out why a factory problem gets you grief ? Ask them if they think 'you' caused it ?

Gotta be more to it then that...

PS: I'd be pissed

i've heard similar reports

my service advisor said they couldn't replace my brake pads on my '02 the day i brought it in, because the bmw rep was there and giving them a hard time about too many warranty repairs! she said they'll do it when i bring it back to do some mods (soon)

i can't help feeling that my car had a few glitches from the factory
(brakes, rattles, pop-up airbag cover, etc.) because it was built the week of the the terrorist attacks.. everyone was a little out of it that week after all... even in germany, i'm sure.
